The Windows operating system saves a list of tasks that it must complete at startup. Basically, they include the launch of any programs. Often software during installation is automatically entered in the startup list. Over time, the computer starts to load longer due to the large number of processes. Using our instructions, you can find a suitable program for startup programs that can clear this list and speed up your computer.
Windows standard functionality
If you do not want to use third-party software, then run a special tool from the operating system. It is less functional, but in the same way allows you to disable startup programs and applications. To use it, follow these steps:
- First you need to hold down the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys to open the Task Manager application.
- After that, open the "Startup" tab (relevant for Windows 10).
- Here you will find a list of programs that will be launched when the operating system is turned on. You can observe their current status and impact on PC startup speed. To enable a process, you need to click on it with RMB and select "Disable" in the menu.
However, this utility allows you to determine startup programs only from a list of user-installed ones. And another limitation is that through this software you can only disable autorun, but not delete programs from the list completely.
For the Windows 7 operating system, there is another way to open this list, since the "Startup" tab appeared only in Windows 10. So, Windows 7 users should do the following to open the standard program for startup programs:
- Launch the Run window using the Win + R key combination.
- Enter the msconfig command and run it.
- The "System Configuration" window opens. In it, you need to open the "Startup" tab, where the entire list of programs that automatically start when the computer starts will be located.
Now consider third-party programs for startup programs (removal / shutdown / add).
Ccleaner
The first option, called CCleaner, has the ability to configure an autorun list. You need to install the program from the official site and run. After that, follow the instructions:
- Go to the "Service" tab. Please note that the utility also allows you to clean your PC from errors, registry entries and cache files.
- Here we select the "Startup" subsection.
- In this window, you can choose Windows startup, scheduled tasks, context menu, and so on. To remove the program from startup, you need to select it with the mouse and click on the "Shutdown" button on the right side of the window.
CCleaner is different in that it allows you to immediately go to the corresponding entries in the registry related to a specific application in startup.
Revo uninstaller
This program specializes in the complete removal of software from a computer, starting with a standard uninstall and ending with cleaning registry entries. Also, Revo Uninstaller allows you to work with the utility for editing startup, cleaning browsers, MS Office, and so on. It is on the first option that we dwell in more detail.
To access the startup manager, do the following:
- Launch Revo Uninstaller and open the Tools tab.
- Select the "Autorun Manager" subsection.
- To disable startup of the program, you need to uncheck the box next to the name.
- To remove an application from autorun completely, you need to right-click on it and select "Delete Selected" in the menu.
Revo Unisntaller is the most functional tool. The user can configure startup programs in detail, change their path, disable / enable individual processes, view the properties of executive files.
Autorun organizer
The last hero of the program review for startup programs and their settings - this is Autorun Organizer. Consider its advantages.
This utility allows you to track the impact of various applications on the speed of inclusion of the operating system in the form of a visual diagram. The program is also capable of notifying the user about the appearance of new positions in the startup list. Thus, you will never miss when the installed software makes its changes to the system configuration. To disable software, you need to select it and in the bottom of the window click on "Temporarily disable" or "Delete".
Now you know where to disable startup programs and applications in many ways!
