The Dragon Age game universe has many different ways to interact with its companions. One of these ways are gifts from Dragon Age - these are special items that you can give to party members for approval points. The rating can be determined both by the value of the gift, and by the preferences of the recipients themselves. The number of items available for donation is limited. Usually, approval points for subsequent gifts are reduced, the lowest bonus can be +1.
In today's article, we will focus on gifts from Dragon Age: Origins. This is the very first part of the eponymous game series that implemented gift mechanics. We also note that in the article only four satellites from the first part of Dragon Age will be mentioned - these are Alistair, Wynn, Zevran and Leliana.
How to give a gift?
Perhaps the main question that worries many: how to give gifts to companions in Dragon Age: Origins? In fact, everything is quite simple: just drag the desired item from your own inventory onto the desired character or click on the present with the right mouse button and select the appropriate option.
Approval system
Approval will be awarded as follows:
- Any gift can earn +5 points. All subsequent presentations are accompanied by a fine of -1 approval. Thus, the very first present gives us +5 points, the next one is already +4 points, the next one is +3 points and so on.
- Having received a special type of gift, the character will reward us with an additional approval of +5 points (the total bonus is +10). Penalties also affect the value of special presentations, as a result of which it drops to approval at +6.
- Approving a character with a negative rating leads to a double reduction in the value of the gift. Thus, the usual category of presents gives 0 points, a special category - +5 points to approval.
- After the rating reaches a maximum mark of +100, new approval points are no longer awarded.
- An increasing approval rating opens up access to new satellite bonuses. These bonuses are added to the basic skills. So, for example, Leliana’s character increases her trick due to additional bonuses.
Special Gift Category
As we mentioned earlier, special presents give the player +10 points to the approval of one or another companion. Exceptions are plot-related gifts. If the gift is special for a particular hero, all attempts to donate it to other characters will fail.
Dragon Age gifts: whom to give? What to give to Alistair?
Alistair always liked magic, so he will be happy with mysterious runestones or figurines. What else can you give to this character?
- Medallion owned by Alistair's mother (story item) - you can find the medallion in Radcliffe Castle.
- White runestone - located in the Tower of the Circle.
- A stone figurine in the form of a warrior - you will have to go deep into the caves behind the figurine, which are located under the destroyed temple.
- Stone statuette in the form of a dragon - a gift hidden in Radcliffe Castle.
- A small carved figurine - is hidden in the Lothering location.
- Onyx figurine in the form of a demon - you can find a figurine in East Bresilian.
- Bowl of Initiation - available only with the addition "Return to Ostagar", hidden in Ostagar.
- Black rune stone - in search of this gift from Dragon Age we will have to go to the Taig location of the house of Edukan, which is located on the Deep Trails.
- A shield belonging to Duncan (story item) - will lie in the Denerim merchant warehouse.
- Puppet doll in the form of a Gray Guard - available along with the Holiday Gifts add-on for Dragon Age. Gives +50 approval points. The puppet can be bought from the gnome Bodan Fedik.
- The collection of the complete genealogy of the rulers of Ferelden - the item is only available after installing the "Holiday Gifts" add-on. After receiving it, Alistair’s approval rating for a player decreases by -50 points. The book can also be purchased from Bodan Fedik.
What to give to Wynn?
Wynn appreciates printed materials, so she is always ready to accept books or scrolls as a gift. However, these are far from the only things that can please her.
- Secrets of the blood of dragons - this book can be found in the location of the Ruined Temple.
- Exquisite Scroll - Located on the lower level of the Bresilian ruins.
- The Genealogy of the Gerrins from Ferelden - can be found in Radcliffe Castle.
- A book called "Rose of Orlei" - the volume is hidden in the Tower of the Circle, in the chambers of the senior magicians.
- A volume called "In Search of a True Prophet" - the item is located in the Orzamar Keepers (one of the buildings in the location of the Diamond Halls).
- A bottle of wine - this gift can be found in several places at once: in the "Spoiled Princess", in Lothering and Radcliffe.
- Medallion of Memories - You must have the Holiday Gifts and Drawings add-on for Dragon Age. The medallion can be purchased from merchant Bodan Fedik. After the player hands it to Wynn, he will receive +50 points for approval.
- Catwalker's staff is not the best gift for Wynne, reducing her approval rating by -50 points. It is added to the game with the addition of "Holiday Gifts" and sold by the same Bodan Fedik.
What to give to Zevran?
Zevran will never give up leather goods or precious bullions. All gifts suitable for him are described below.
- Dolian deer leather gloves (story item) - for gloves we set off towards West Bresilian.
- Anti-Vans leather boots (story item) - found in the village Vault, which is located in the Frosty Mountains.
- A small bar of gold - can be found in the Tower of the Circle, on the fourth floor.
- A small bar of silver - can be found in the village Vault, in the local church.
- A large bar of gold - found in the city of Denerim, in the house of Earl.
- Large ingot of silver - found on the Deep Trails, in the Anvil of the Void.
- A bottle of rare antivan brandy - the player receives +50 points to the approval of Zevran. Appears in the game with the addition of "Gifts and Draws", sold by Bodan Fedik.
- Chastity belt - the player loses -50 points from Zevran's loyalty. If Gifts and Practical Jokes have been installed, then the belt can be found at Merchant Bodan.
What to give Leliana?
Leliana's character is always happy with gifts with symbols of Andraste and the Church.
- Grace Andraste (story item) is a flower growing in Radcliffe, Elphinage, and also in West Bresilian.
- Beautiful naga (story item) - usually located in the dusty city.
- Church Medallion - Can be found in the Tower of the Circle.
- The symbol of Andraste from bronze is hidden in the location of Lothering.
- Gold Andraste symbol - hidden in Orzamar.
- Steel symbol Andraste - hidden in Denerim, in the trading quarter.
- A sword of Mercy forged from silver can be found in Old Therin.
- Lute is an additional gift from the Gifts and Draws add-on for Dragon Age: Origins. Sold by Bodan Fedik and has a value of +50 approval points.
