When is Mother's Day celebrated in Russia?

Many, not knowing when Mother's Day is celebrated in our country, often miss it.

When did it appear?

The fact is that this date is not very popular. The reason is that the holiday officially began to be celebrated not so long ago - on the basis of the Presidential Decree, it began to be celebrated since 1998. From that moment, a specific date was chosen when Mother's Day was to be held - the last Sunday of the month ending the autumn. It is, of course, about November.

In fact, the tradition of paying special attention to all mothers on a particular day of the year exists not only in our country. The holiday is considered international - it is known in more than 50 countries of the world. In the same England, the origins of this wonderful tradition originate in the 17th century. And they called him in those days, "Mother Sunday", closely associating with a number of church dates.

Traditions of other countries

In the United States, they are familiar with this date firsthand, but there Mother's Day is celebrated in early May. It was "introduced" in the country thanks to the initiative of Anna Jarvis, who lives in Philadelphia. She suggested that special attention be given to women with children on the very day of her mother’s death - May 2. And society supported her. Since then, everyone knows there when Mother's Day is celebrated, and the scale of the holiday has long taken national proportions, Americans love it very much. For the first time in the USA they heard about him in 1914.

Another 23 countries, deciding when Mothers Day would be celebrated with them, chose the same date. The rest are celebrated at a convenient time: Belarusians chose October, Spaniards chose December, and Lebanese chose March. And, perhaps, only in Russia with the advent of this day, when the children of the mother are presented with flowers and postcards, the celebration is also carried out outside the families. Simply put, it acquires an official level, because in different cities all mothers who have more than three children are necessarily honored. Various concerts, festivals are organized for them, awards “Parental Glory” are presented to them. In Europe, on this day it is simply customary to come to visit mothers with small gifts and bouquets.

Celebration Features

Mother's Day 2013 in Russia was celebrated on November 25, and this year it will be celebrated on the 30th of the same month. In Soviet times, mothers were awarded three types of medals. The most “simple” was awarded for the education of 5 or 6 children. It was called the Maternity Medal. And the most honorable for a woman with many children was then receiving the order “Mother Heroine” (he was given for the education of 10 or more offspring).

Nowadays, completely different awards are presented. There are two of them, their names are the same (“Parental Glory”), but the types are different. So, the medal of the order is given to both parents for raising 4 to 7 children. And the award itself will be given to father and mother, who put seven or more at once on their feet. (The “mother-heroine” status as such no longer exists.)

In the latter case, by the way, each parent is given two characters: one full-size, the other - in miniature, so that you can wear it at especially solemn moments. Men and women have different rewards. A prerequisite for applicants for the award (a requirement existed in Soviet times, and now): such families, so to speak, should set an example for society in everything related to raising children.
