The computer is very buzzing: what to do?

The appearance of extraneous noise and vibration in stationary computer terminals or even in laptops is a fairly common phenomenon. And, alas, not a single owner of this type of equipment is insured. What would you advise an ordinary user to do in such a situation? It goes without saying that you can take the computer to a service center or to the nearest workshop, but this is a paid and even expensive pleasure. It is believed that most known problems can be fixed on their own. That is why we will further try to consider why the computer is noisy, what to do in such a situation, and how much it is possible to get rid of noise or vibration yourself, without leaving your home. Naturally, we will not consider some specific solutions for the application of which you must have at least basic knowledge and technical skills, but rather dwell on the simplest actions that any untrained user can perform on their own.

Because of what the computer is very noisy: the main reasons

Before making any decision, of course, it is necessary to find out the root causes of this behavior of the device. Many users justifiably call the pollution of the internal filling of a PC or laptop called the main factor in the appearance of a hum, which leads to an increased speed of rotation of the cooling fans. Yes, indeed, in most cases this is true, but you can still find many factors that can even indirectly provoke the occurrence of emergency situations.

So, if the computer is very buzzing, the reasons called by most specialists in the repair of computer equipment may be as follows:

  • contamination of the system unit or internal filling;
  • dusting of cooling coolers of the processor and video card;
  • clogged case fan;
  • weakened fastening of parts;
  • faulty or improperly selected power supply;
  • the presence of an optical disc drive;
  • faulty hard drive (HDD, not SSD);
  • damaged motherboard;
  • housing without sound insulation;
  • Incorrect power scheme settings.

It goes without saying what to do if the computer is very noisy, only repair technicians of the corresponding profile will tell you for sure. But do not rush to bring your terminal or laptop to the workshop. Let's try out some of the simplest solutions that each of us can apply.

The computer is very buzzing: what to do first?

As already clear, for starters just try to disassemble the system unit of the stationary terminal when the power is off, removing the side cover, and examine the inside of your PC.

Cleaning the system unit from dust

If a lot of dust is noticed inside, simply remove it using some low-power car vacuum cleaner. If you have only an ordinary vacuum cleaner, set the suction power on it to the very minimum (if this, of course, is possible). Such actions are necessary in order not to accidentally damage important components of the equipment installed on the motherboard.

Sometimes you can use a dry or damp cloth and wipe all surfaces. However, even here you need to be very careful not to catch any contact or cable. When using wet wipes, before turning on the PC after cleaning, you will need to wait until the surfaces and contacts have completely dried. In the case of rags, it is not recommended to moisten them too much, as excessive moisture in some connectors or slots can lead to fatal consequences.

Optical drive

But let's assume that you cleaned the main components inside the PC from dust and dirt, but still the computer is very buzzing at work. What to do in such a situation? You will not believe it, but many users are completely oblivious to the presence of an optical disc in the CD / DVD-ROM drive. It is during its promotion that characteristic noises and even very strong vibrations can appear, especially in those cases when the inserted disk is damaged or scratched, and the drive for correctly reading information cannot fully unwind it. If the media is actually in the drive, simply remove it and check if there is any noise left after that.

Note: it is also worth paying attention to the operability of the drive itself.

A blank disc for recording in the drive

You can check whether everything is in order by inserting a new blank disc or a deliberately readable disc. If the spin to the end does not happen, alas, the drive will have to be replaced. By the way, it’s even easier to simply disconnect it from the motherboard and power supply by pulling out the corresponding cables.

Parts fixing

Now we proceed from the fact that the above actions were unsuccessful. What should I do if the computer is very buzzing and after that it vibrates with a rattle? It is likely that the cause of this phenomenon may be some loose part.

So, for example, very often some users fix the side wall with fewer screws than is provided for by the design of the system unit. It is quite obvious that in such a situation the block will have to be disassembled again and at least by ear to determine where the extraneous noise comes from. But to put palms or fingers to determine the source of vibration is strictly prohibited! After you find the loose element, fasten it using screws, screws, special fasteners, etc. If there is a problem with the equipment that is inserted into the slots of the motherboard, remove it and then reinsert it as tightly as possible. But overdo it!

Graphics card cooler

Now let's move on to the most important issues. It is precisely because of the extreme cooler mode that the computer is very buzzing. What to do in this case? First of all, pay attention to the fan that cools the video card (or rather, the graphics processor). It is believed that it is he who is capable of producing such strong noises that it can not be described at all.

Cleaning the video card and GPU cooler

In the simplest case, try to clean the blades from dust or dirt and mechanical impurities accumulated on them, if they are found there. It was also good to lubricate the fan bearing using special silicone greases. If you don’t have one at home or if it’s expensive to buy them on the Internet, use machine oils. But under no circumstances should you use herbal products!

But suppose that even after that the computer is very buzzing. What to do? It is possible that the fan speed can be reduced due to special software designed specifically for the graphics chip of a particular manufacturer. Typically, manufacturers themselves post such utilities for free access on their official resources. Advising something about the level of speed reduction is quite difficult. In theory, most of these programs have predefined settings for changing the operation modes of coolers, so you can use such template schemes.

CPU Cooling Fan: BIOS Speed Control

Now we proceed from the fact that it is not a video card. Why then does the computer make a lot of noise? What to do? Apparently, the reason for this lies already in the cooling fans of the central processor. It is clear that they, as in the case of the graphics accelerator, must first be cleaned. However, if there is no dust or dirt on them, but the noise is incredible, you can try to reduce the speed of rotation yourself.

Changing the operating mode of the CPU fans in the BIOS

First, use the BIOS / UEFI primary system configuration. There you will need to find something like Fan Speed Control. As a rule, the factory settings are set in such a way that the speed selection mode is set to automatic. Try changing it by choosing a lower value from the list. Save the settings, and after rebooting, check the noise level. If it is still there, lower the value by one more point.

Note: before performing such operations, you need to understand that the CPU temperature can increase significantly, so you will have to adjust the cooler operating modes at your own peril and risk. True, some experts recommend applying an additional layer of thermal paste to the processor, which will slightly reduce heat. However, the best solution would be a complete replacement of the cooling system (especially if your computer, if I may say so, is not the first freshness).

Fan speed reduction using special software

But we can assume that you did not find such parameters in the BIOS settings, or a change in the operation mode of the fans did not give the expected result, and the computer is noisy. What to do in this case?

SpeedFan Program

The SpeedFan program looks much more interesting, although more complicated, in which it is also possible to adjust the rotation speed of coolers programmatically. However, it must be used in tandem with some utility that controls the temperature of the processor (AIDA64, CPU-Z, etc.). It will be necessary to reduce the speed until the heating temperature critical for the CPU is reached. After reaching it, it will be necessary to return the previous speed value in the main program, at which no critical heating was observed for a long time.

HDD

Actually, the hard drive may be one of the reasons that the computer is very buzzing. What to do in this case? First you need to determine the cause. Maybe the drive is simply loose. But this is the best thing that can happen.

In most cases, in fact, if this is accompanied by a constant system crash, spontaneous reboot, power-on not the first time, etc., you will have to disappoint. Apparently, the hard drive began to fail ("crumble"). To at least somehow protect yourself from losing important information, first check the disk with some utility like TestDisk, with which you can create bootable media.

Scan HDD hard drive by HDD Regenerator

If this does not work, use the HDD Regenerator utility, which allows you to recover even hopelessly damaged hard drives. If all else fails, transfer important information to another medium (or create a full disk backup), and then replace the problematic HDD.

Power Supply

The power supply can also cause the computer to buzz a lot. What to do with it? As a rule, such a situation can be observed if you have a computer not of a factory, but of manual assembly. Therefore, the best option is to replace the unit with one that exactly matches the parameters of the installed equipment. Such information can be obtained, for example, on the website of the manufacturer of the motherboard. In the case of standard assembly, it is sometimes recommended to install an additional voltage stabilizer or “uninterruptible”.

Motherboard

Sometimes the reason for such phenomena can be the motherboard. The appearance of cracks just contributes to their appearance. Disassemble the system unit and inspect it. In the case of defects, as a rule, you yourself can’t do anything good (with constant vibrations, the crack will only increase, and then the entire computer system will fail). As already clear, you have to fork out for a new "motherboard". In case of emergency, contact your nearest service center for assistance.

Can I refuse to use case fans?

It goes without saying that the main case fan can often provoke situations when the computer is very buzzing. What to do in this case, and is it possible to refuse to use it at all? According to some experts, in the case of office PCs, you can disable it. The temperature of the same processor may increase slightly (within 10-15 degrees). But this applies only to those cases when you really work only with the simplest office programs. But when using resource-intensive applications for multimedia processing, complex engineering programs and modern computer games, it is not recommended to do such things under any circumstances.

Body replacement

Sometimes the noise level can be quite high even on relatively new PCs. The reason for this is the improper execution of the case. The exit is considered the purchase of a new building, equipped with sound insulation. Today they are quite inexpensive. It is possible that due to this the level of hum or vibration will decrease quite significantly.

Power supply

Finally, if none of the above described as a reason or as a solution to resolve the problem did not suit you, try changing the installed power scheme.

Choosing the optimal power scheme

It may well be that you have installed high performance, in which all resources are used to the maximum. Alternatively, set up a balanced circuit or energy saving.
