Every budding musician is faced with the question: "How to tune an acoustic guitar?" First you need to decide what you will play? It can be fingers, pick, slide. Tuning is necessary with the same instrument that you will play, since each of them acts on the strings with different strengths.
The sound quality of the melody performed by the musician depends on how well the guitar is tuned. Therefore, everyone, even a novice musician, should be able to tune his instrument. We will tell about how to properly configure the guitar below.
First of all, you need to be able to tune it by ear. Thanks to this method, tuning can be done in 5-10 minutes, even if you just pulled the strings.
The most popular among beginners is the classic way. It is quite simple and visual. For the correct sound, it is enough to fine-tune one string - the first, using any mechanism at hand. In order to understand how to properly configure the guitar, you need to know the standard structure of the instrument.
Note | String | Value |
E | one | mi octave second |
B | 2 | si octave first |
G | 3 | octave salt first |
D | 4 | re octaves first |
A | 5 | for octave small |
E | 6 | mi octave big |
To tune the first string, you can use an already tuned other instrument, such as a piano. The standard is the note of the first octave - mi (E). Also suitable:
- program on a smartphone or PC;
- tuning fork - the most accurate way;
- the telephone beep corresponds to note E.
It is necessary for the string to sound in unison with the standard. Setting up the rest is straightforward. The sequence is as follows:
- The 2nd string is tuned based on the first. It is clamped on the fifth fret and adjusted so that it coincides in sound with the first open string.
- 3rd - it is clamped on the fourth fret and is adjusted to coincide with the open second string.
- 4th - sandwiched in the fifth fret, the sound should coincide with the third free.
- 5th - clamped in the fifth fret, it is tuned to coincide with the fourth open.
- 6th - (the thickest, top), is pressed on the fifth fret and is adjusted to coincide with the fifth open. It sounds similar to the first with a difference of two octaves.
After the tuning of the guitar by ear is over, it is best to go through the strings again, make adjustments, since when pulling one of them, the other could weaken. If everything is done correctly, your tool will be tuned almost perfectly.
How to properly tune your guitar according to flageolets?
This is a more accurate and correct way of tuning, as sometimes it’s not enough just to tune the instrument according to frets. Flaulette is a technique of touching the string with the finger of the left hand in the middle of the fret and extracting sound with the right hand, while simultaneously removing the finger from the string.
Sequence:
- The 1st string is tuned in the same way as in the classical method using another instrument;
- 6th string - with the help of a flag-fly on the fifth fret it is adjusted to coincide with the open first;
- 5th string - tuned with the help of a flywheel on the seventh fret and should match the first open sound;
- 4th string - with the help of a flag-fly on the seventh fret, the sound should coincide with the flag-fly on the fifth fret of the fifth string;
- 3rd string - with the help of a flag-flight on the seventh fret, it corresponds to the flag-flight of the fourth string on the fifth fret;
- 2nd string - with the help of the flag-fly on the fifth fret, it is regulated to coincide with the flag-fly of the string of the first, taken on the seventh fret.
Here are some ways to tune your guitar. You can also use modern methods, such as tuning online or using the tuner. However, knowing how to tune the instrument by ear will always be with you and will help when nothing is at hand except for the guitar.
