When is Tanker Day celebrated in Russia?

when is tanker day

Tanker Day in 2013 was celebrated, as always, on the second Sunday of the first autumn month, namely September 8th. This tradition developed after the war, and in 2006 was enshrined in our legislation. Even when Tanker Day was unofficially celebrated, it was considered one of the most revered holidays of the Armed Forces. And since 2006 it has become even more significant. By enacting the law, the government tried to express recognition by the people of the tanker's grandiose merits both in the complete defeat of Nazi Germany and in modern wars.

history of the holiday

When Tanker Day was just beginning to be celebrated, it was celebrated in major cities. This event was accompanied by the ceremonial movement of columns of tanks along major streets. In some cities, fireworks even thundered that day. In recent years, when Tanker’s Day gained popularity, this holiday became an occasion for veterans to meet. Rallies, tank exhibitions, as well as extreme driving of military vehicles are held.

First tanks

In 1920, in August, the first domestic tank was created at the Krasnoye Sormovo plant. Thanks to him, already in 1927, mass production of equipment (armored) began. Three years later, that is, in 1930, J.Ya. Kotin and M.I. Koshkin (more precisely, the design bureau under their leadership) created tanks of a new generation - KV and T-34. These tanks in their capabilities and characteristics had significant superiority over foreign armored vehicles. The T-34 became a true legend and was subsequently recognized as the best tank in the entire Second World War. The Great Patriotic War (WWII) became a fierce test of the skill and courage of tankers . In battles and on battlefields, it was the tank forces that were the main crushing and striking force. They were also the basis of the reliability and stability of small arms defense. In the battle for Moscow, a tank guard appeared. She became the fourth tank brigade, commanded by Colonel M.E. Katukov. Later he became a famous marshal of tank troops.

Awards

In the difficult years, our tankers showed heroism and courage worthy of the award and the highest praise. Tanker Day in Russia is celebrated on a large scale, paying tribute to the dead tankers, thanks to whom we live and enjoy every day today. For their dedication and courage, 1,142 tankmen were awarded the high title Hero of the Soviet Union. High state awards were also awarded to 9,000 tank builders, thanks to which our country won. When Tanker Day is celebrated throughout the country, a sense of pride overflows with our military and our country. I would like that after many decades people would not forget about the courage of our compatriots and respect their memory. The most difficult years of the war are already in the past, and thanks for this, it is necessary for our dear veterans. There are very few of them left. A drop of attention will warm their soul, do not be callous and insensitive, they risked their lives for the sake of our future. Thank you, dear veterans, for your exploits!
