Color Dodge blending mode is needed to create more colorful images. It enhances brightness and contrast for all shades and colors except black. This greatly increases the color polarity. In Russian localization, Color Dodge in Illustrator is translated as "lightening the base."
Principle of operation
As was said, this mode brightens all colors except black, and makes them brighter. For an example, this can be verified as follows. It is necessary to transfer two arbitrary figures to the working area, so that they intersect each other. One of the figures should be black, the other of any color. Then, in blending mode, you need to set the base lightening mode and select the appropriate transparency level. In this case, the color of the black rectangle will not change. This suggests that black cannot be replaced by lightening the base.
Instruction manual
In order to create the correct illustration using the mode, follow these steps:
- Place a rectangle on the work area and fill it with black (RGB = 0,0,0).
- Then select it and create a mesh gradient. It is necessary to set the number of rows and columns of the figure. Select a number and confirm.
- Using the Direct Selection feature, select the center node of the grid and change its color to dark blue.
- Then one line above and below is also highlighted, and a darker blue color is set for them.
- To ensure an attractive appearance, you need to create another background shape, fill it in a vertical way with a gradient from white to black.
- You can then apply the Color Dodge mode.
- The result is a background for the text.
How to improve the result?
To improve the result, you can complicate the appearance of the figure. To do this, you can additionally form another shape, for example, a rectangle, then create a radial white gradient to the center and apply the blending mode again. After clarification of the base, an interesting light effect will be obtained.
Then you can add a few more effects. Place a very dark rectangle in the work area, which will be filled with a gradient. Choose your own colors, as well as the limits of the numerical values of red, green and blue. Then repeat the same steps with the new rectangle, on which the gradient will be located vertically. The color for the gradient is gray. Then lighten the resulting image. The result is a beautiful background for text. In addition, lightening the base can be used in many other situations.
