How to change DNS: several standard solutions

When setting up any Internet connection, the parameters of the so-called DNS servers are taken into account, which simplify access by converting the current IP addresses of sites into combinations familiar to everyone, consisting of letters, numbers and additional signs or symbols. Typically, the provider sets these parameters by itself or gives the user a list of addresses that must be entered in the options of the protocols used. But sometimes (especially when the provider blocks some services or when errors or malfunctions occur), these addresses need to be set manually. How to change the DNS, given several possible situations, will be discussed later. However, it is immediately worth noting that in most cases, for wireless connections, all addresses are set automatically, and if everything works, there is no point in making changes to the installed parameters (anyway, the speed of loading pages on the Internet will not increase).

How to check DNS functionality?

So, let's not get ahead of ourselves yet, but let's see if we need to change the parameters at all. You can test your own connection through the command line launched as administrator. To do this, use the ping toolkit.

DNS Verification

Suppose you decide to check if you are currently connected to the official resource of Google Corporation. To do this, enter the main command, and after the space after it, specify the site address, as shown in the image above. If the packet exchange between the resource address and your computer has begun, nothing needs to be done. If there is no connection, try checking the free combination from the same Google by entering the address with four eights through the dot in the console. If a successful connection is detected, you can change the current settings.

Note: you can change the addresses using third-party software, for example, using the DNS Jumper program, however, we will proceed from the fact that the user does not have such applications at hand, and we will use the tools of the operating system itself.
