Pyrotopop for dogs is a Russian drug intended for the prevention and treatment of diseases caused by blood parasites. Such a tool becomes especially relevant in the summer, when the animal can “catch” fleas and ticks, even while walking in the city center. "Pirostop": instructions for use
Pirostop is available as an injection. The drug is packaged in bottles of plastic or dark glass, which are individually packed in separate cardboard boxes with instructions.
The shelf life of the drug in the original packaging is 2 years from the date of manufacture. Pharmacology
"Pirostop" (10 ml of the drug is contained in one ampoule) - an antiprotozoal drug belonging to the imidazoline group.
The mechanism of antiparasitic action of “Pirostop” is due to the fact that imidocarb inhibits the intake of inositol, which is necessary for the life of blood parasites, and also disrupts the formation of the polyamines used by them.
After administration, the drug is rapidly absorbed into the blood, where it remains at the pyroplasma-static level from 4 to 6 weeks. The active substance “Pirostop” accumulates in the liver and kidneys, and is excreted from the body of the animal along with urine.
The drug has a third hazard class in terms of its effect on the body, that is, it is considered moderately dangerous. And in the recommended dosage it does not have mutagenic, embryotoxic and locally irritating properties.
Dosage
Not only dogs, but also cattle, horses and sheep “Pirostop” are prescribed. The dosage of the drug, which we will indicate below, is relevant only for the treatment of dogs.
So, for prevention and treatment, an animal is prescribed from 0.25 to 0.5 mg of the drug per 10 kg of body weight once.
For prophylactic purposes, Pirostop is prescribed if there is a threat of an attack by ixodid ticks, which are carriers of blood-parasitic diseases, on an animal. And also before the dog’s intended journey to a place where ticks can attack her (summer cottage, going to the forest, fields, hunting, etc.).

There are some precautions that must be observed when using the drug:
- After the introduction of Pirostop, the animal must remain for the first 15 minutes under the constant supervision of a veterinarian. And in the first three days after the injection, the owners need to closely monitor the health of the pet.
- At the same time, it is recommended to give an antihistamine, since there is a high probability of an allergic reaction.

- pyroplasmosis in dogs;
- nuttalliosis;
- anaplasmosis;
- mixed invasion.

Contraindications
There are a number of contraindications for the drug “Pirostop”. Instructions for use informs that in the following cases the use of the drug is not allowed:
- individual intolerance to animals of any components of the drug;
- within 4 weeks after the animal has been vaccinated against anaplasmosis or babesiosis.
Side effects

- If the drug gets inside, then immediately seek medical help. You must have an ampoule with a label or instructions with you.
- Used ampoules from under the “Pirostop” must be disposed of together with household waste, it is forbidden to use them again for domestic needs.
There are no special antidotes designed to suppress the action of the drug.
