Microsoft is increasingly trying to popularize its latest operating system, Windows 10, by hook or by crook, forcing users to install it on their desktop PCs and laptops. The installation process, either when upgrading an existing system, or when performing a clean installation, is quite simple, but it is sometimes accompanied by errors. When installing Windows 10, this happens solely for the reason that not every computer system can switch to a new OS. Usually, almost all known failures are eliminated using not very complicated methods, which will be discussed later. But even when they are used in each specific case, one should take into account the type of error that occurred, for which you will need to know the decryption of their codes.
Common types of problems installing Windows 10
Let's start with a description of general situations in which errors and failures cannot be avoided. If during installation “Windows 10” displays an error, first of all, pay attention to the compliance of your own computer configuration with the minimum requirements of the installed OS. To a very high degree this applies to cases where a so-called clean installation is carried out.
If you upgrade the existing OS (seventh or eighth modification), it should be noted that without installing all available updates for systems that are supposed to be updated to the tenth modification, the new version will not be installed.
However, one cannot rule out problems with hardware, drivers, or important components of working systems. This may be due to malfunctions of the same USB ports or the use of an outdated version of the interface, damage to bootable media or images recorded on them, improper startup settings in primary systems, inoperative equipment or lack of control software, problems with hard drives, memory slots and etc. All of this can lead not only to errors, but also to the fact that the installation at a certain stage simply hangs tightly.
Error codes for installing Windows 10
So, it’s worth mentioning right away that to consider absolutely all possible situations and errors arising during the installation process will not work out physically. Nevertheless, from all that can happen, separately we can single out failures with the most common codes, among which users usually get the following errors when installing Windows 10:
- 900101-2000c;
- 0xc1900101-0x20017;
- 0x8007025d;
- 1,900,107;
- 80240020;
- 1900101-20004;
- 0x80070002;
- 0xc0000428;
- 0x80070570;
- 0xc0000005.
Based on the above list, we consider each failure or group of errors more specifically, and then we will figure out what techniques can be used to correct them.
900101-2000c
This group of codes defines the majority of errors during the installation of Windows 10, which usually occur when upgrading existing OS, when the installation media was created using a Microsoft native program called Media Creation Tool. Roughly speaking, the files needed to install the system were not written to the drive correctly. Unfortunately, this happens, although the utility itself does not signal this in any way.
It is possible to eliminate such failures quite simply by downloading the image file from some trusted source on the Internet, after which you will need to create an installation USB flash drive with Windows 10 in another program.
Most experts agree that the fully automated Rufus application looks best in this regard, in which you just need to specify the path to the desired image file, and the program will set all other parameters on its own.
0xc1900101-0x20017
Codes of this group usually refer to driver errors. When installing Windows 10, for reasons it only knows, it refuses to work with some devices that are directly involved in the installation process. As a rule, such malfunctions occur when upgrading existing systems, so it will not hurt to remember for what particular equipment you recently updated the management software.
If you recall, in the “Device Manager” (devmgmt.msc) roll back the driver. However, it is best to turn off all unnecessary peripheral and network equipment (on laptops it is advisable to disconnect even the mouse, and leave only the touchpad), and then repeat the installation.
0x8007025d
This error when installing Windows 10 is usually issued due to the detection of problems with RAM strips, hard disks or logical partitions, on which there is not enough space to copy the required amount of information.
You can check the RAM in a running system using its own tool, but it is better to use programs like Memtest86 +. A non-working bar will have to be replaced. If there is simply not enough memory, buy one more bracket of the same standard that is currently used on the motherboard (of the same DDR generation).
Pay particular attention to the size of the partitions that will be used as system partitions. "Ten" even in the form of a stripped-down version on a disk with a capacity of 16 GB simply does not rise. The same goes for a regular build if you are trying to install the system on a partition that has only 32 GB free. The best solution is to combine several sections into one with a corresponding increase in free space. You can do this either through the system tools in the disk management section (diskmgmt.msc), or in programs like AOMEI Partition Assistant or similar developments from Acronis.
1900107
The appearance of an error with this code directly indicates active protection that prevents the installation of unlicensed copies of Windows.
To fix it, use the BIOS / UEFI settings, where you need to disable the Secure Boot Secure Boot feature. If the primary system itself has a tool to remove all installed security keys (Clear All Secure Boot Keys), also use it.
80240020
This failure occurs in cases of excessive overflow of the Download system directory in the SoftwareDistribution folder located in the main directory of the system.
To clean up, run the command console as administrator, and then execute the combination wuauclt.exe / updatenow.
1900101-20004
Errors with the codes of this group can also partially be related to the overflow of the download folder described above, however, in addition to cleaning it, you must also get rid of the $ Windows. ~ BT directory located in the root of the system partition.
If it just doesn’t work out, you can first rename it with a different name, or use the Unlocker utility to perform the operation, in which select the deletion as the final action in the list. Additionally, go to the primary system settings and change the boot mode from Legacy to UEFI.
0x80070002
This failure appears when some services of the existing system are deactivated. Most often it is connected with the Update Center. Go to the services section (services.msc) and start the main process by pressing the appropriate button with the automatic start type set.
If this does not work, disable the service, and then completely clean the contents of the DataStore subdirectory in the SoftwareDistribution directory.
If it is impossible to manually delete files and folders, use the disk cleanup tool to delete system files, and in the list, check all the components present.
0xc0000428
This failure is related to driver errors, however, the oem-drv64.sys file, which starts with the system, is usually the main problem component (it is located in the drivers directory located in the System32 directory). You need to get rid of it.
But this can be done when booting from removable media in recovery mode, where after going through several sections it selects a return to the previous assembly.
Note: after making a return, just in case, check the system components using the command line (of course, you need to run it as an administrator) and the sfc / scannow combination . If the system refuses to boot, start from removable media, proceed to use the command line and repeat the operation.
0x80070570
Error 0x80070570 when installing Windows 10 most often indicates problems with RAM and hard drives. In the case of RAM, use the methods described above. If the hard drive began to “crumble”, the best option would be to check and restore it using the powerful HDD Regenerator program. Just in case, it doesn’t hurt to check the flash drive on which the installation distribution was recorded.
0xc0000005
Finally, when installing Windows 10, error 0xc0000005 usually does not occur, but makes itself felt when installing updates. In principle, you can remove the problematic packages in the already installed “top ten” using the programs and components section in which you can choose to view installed updates. You need to remove the HF updates with the following numbers:
- 971033;
- 2,882,822;
- 2,872,339;
- 2859537.
As an additional step, you may sometimes need to completely deactivate the DEP service.
It is better to execute it through the command console, starting on behalf of the administrator, by using the command shown in the image above, followed by rebooting the computer system.
