How to resize fields in Word

Those who worked in the Word text editor know that the text is entered in the printable field, while the fields are located around it. But newcomers are often not aware that there is an opportunity to resize fields in Word. How to do this will now be described. Read the article to the end, since in addition to the instructions, there is also advice on how to enable the display of these same fields.

Method 1: select templates

To resize fields, you can use pre-prepared templates, which are often enough to not set parameters manually. So, to complete the task, you need to do the following:

  1. Click on the Layout or Page Layout tab. It depends on which version of the program you are using. So in 2016 - “Layout”, and in all the rest - “Page Layout”.
  2. Click Fields. This button is located in the page settings tool group.
  3. From the menu, select the size template that suits you best. Please note that just below their names are indicated and sizes.

If you select the desired template, it will be immediately applied on all pages of the document. This is the first method, and, as you can see, it does not allow for flexible configuration of all page parameters.

Method two: create and modify parameters

If none of the templates suits you, then you can manually configure all the parameters. Now we will tell you how to do it:

  1. Again, go to the "Layout" or "Page Layout" tab.
  2. In the panel, click on "Fields".
  3. Next, from the list, click on the line "Custom Fields".
  4. In the window that appears, you can now enter the distance from the edges of the sheet manually in the appropriate fields.
  5. Click OK to apply them.

This is how simple it is to resize fields to whatever you wish. Of course, unlike the first method, it is more time-consuming, but it gives more opportunities.

Turn on the display of fields on the sheet

For convenience, you can enable the display of these same fields on the page sheet so that you can visually see their borders. To do this, do the following:

  1. Click on the “File” button.
  2. In the menu that opens, go to the "Options" section.
  3. In the window with the same name, go to "Advanced".
  4. Check the box next to "Show text borders."
  5. Click OK.

After that, the same dotted lines will be displayed in the sheet. Now you know not only how to resize fields in Word, but also how to enable their display.
