Mother's Day in Russia is gradually entering every home, and this is excellent, because no matter how many kind words you say to your mother, they will never be superfluous anyway. There was probably no more country in which this holiday was not celebrated. It is Mother’s Day that is a holiday of eternity, and it’s hard to argue with this, because from generation to generation for any person, mother is the main person in life. When a woman becomes a mother, she discovers such wonderful qualities as love, kindness, caring and self-sacrifice. Mother's Day in Russia occupies a special place among the many holidays, since absolutely no one will remain indifferent to it, and it is on this day that one wants to say thankful words to all mothers who give their children kindness, affection, love and tenderness.

The story of the holiday called "International Mother's Day"

From time immemorial, the mother is a continuer of the clan and a woman who gives life to a new generation. She was revered at all times. The most ancient holiday dedicated to the mother is the festival of the goddess Rhea, who was the wife of the god Kronos and the mother of numerous goddesses and gods. This festival was held in spring in ancient Greece.

Around 250 BC, Rome celebrated a religious festival dedicated to the mother goddess Cybele. It lasted exactly three days: from March 15 to March 18.

In England, at the beginning of the seventeenth century, on the fourth Sunday of Lent, Mother Sunday was celebrated. It was considered a holiday for all English mothers. On this day, the British visited their mothers and brought them a cake called "mother's cake." Absolutely all the servants who lived and worked in wealthy families had a day off and would certainly have to spend it with their own mothers.





The tradition of treating mothers with a cake decorated with twelve marzipan balls still exists in Great Britain. In addition, on Mother's Day, it is customary to relieve mothers of housework and shift cares to the shoulders of the stronger sex.

The second attempt by the inhabitants of America to spend one day in the year of the mother was much more successful than the previous one. In 1907, one of the residents of America, Anna Jervis from the state of Philadelphia, who prematurely died of her own mother, began to shower with letters of legislative and state bodies of the United States, which stated her request to establish Mother's Day. Three years later, her incredible perseverance yielded results. In 1910, Virginia was the first to officially celebrate Mothers Day. Four years later, United States President Woodrow Wilson formally instituted Mother's Day in all states of America, and has been celebrated every year since. Further, the second May Sunday became a holiday for mothers in another 23 countries, and more than 30 countries chose other days for its celebration.

When is Mother's Day celebrated?

This holiday appeared recently - Mother's Day in Russia began to be celebrated in 98 on the last November Sunday. The initiative to establish Mother’s Day was shown by the State Duma Committee on Family, Youth and Women. In Ukraine, the day of all mothers is celebrated since 99 on the second May Sunday, as well as in Japan, Canada, China and the USA. It should be distinguished Mother's Day from the eighth of March, when they congratulate all women. On Mother's Day, only mothers and expectant mothers — pregnant women — are honored.

On Mother's Day in Russia, all children congratulate their beloved mothers on their holiday, thank them for tireless care, love, devotion and patience. Mother is the basis of the extension of the human race.
