Using a computer, you can listen to music or watch movies on a TV in much better quality. To do this, you just need to figure out how to separate the sound on a computer and a TV. This can be done in several ways, depending on the technical parameters and the availability of appropriate cables and connectors.
Sound from a PC to a TV is output using:
Further, these options will be considered in more detail.
HDMI connection
This is the most common option for transferring sound from a computer to a TV. HDMI is a high-definition multimedia interface, so when it is used, the quality remains at its best. All modern TV models are equipped with an appropriate connector, some come with a cord. If not, it is easy to purchase separately.
So how to split sound to PC and TV via HDMI? To achieve the result, a simple manipulation is enough - to connect these devices with an HDMI cable.
Usually this is already enough, but if the TV is silent, you need to specify the TV as the sound source in the PC settings. In the "Playback devices" section (you can select it in the menu that appears when you click on the sound icon), select the desired one and then mark it as the default one.
In the case when the HDMI connector is connected, and the TV did not appear in the list of available devices, the PC should be rebooted and reconfigured.
Also, problems are possible due to the fact that the computer video card does not support signal transmission via HDMI. This option is unlikely, because all modern models are equipped with this function. But if this is precisely the case, it is worth considering other options for how to separate the sound on a computer and a TV.
Wi-Fi connection
This option is good for its simplicity and the absence of unnecessary equipment, but the TV must meet several conditions:
- have a built-in Wi-Fi module;
- play multimedia files;
- support DLNA standard.
If all the requirements are met, the configuration is carried out in several stages:
- We configure the router in DHCP mode to assign devices an IP address.
- In the TV menu in the list of wireless devices we find the desired network.
- We install a media server on the computer - a program for processing audio and video signals, with which it will be possible to access folders with audio and video files.
- After starting the installed utility, we switch the sound from the computer to the TV. As the sound source, we indicate Ethernet.
DVI Connection
DVI cable - connection option for cases when using HDMI is not possible. There are three types of connectors for this type:
If you want to transmit not only audio but also video, then you can’t just stretch the cable from the computer to the TV. In this case, use a DVI-HDMI cable or you can take a DVI-D-HDMI adapter, and connect an HDMI-HDMI cable through it.
This method is not very convenient for several reasons. Firstly, not every video card can provide audio playback through a DVI output. And secondly, it is not always possible to transfer an image using a DVI cable, so the process of connecting and setting up is complicated and not very convenient.
Connection via RCA
An RCA cable or “tulip” will help to separate the sound to a computer and a TV using the most outdated technology. It consists of two or three connectors transmitting individual signals. The cable is connected to the corresponding jacks on the TV, then the "Video" mode is selected.
RJ45 Connector
Before connecting audio using RJ45, you need to make sure that your TV supports DLNA technology. The principle of connection is similar to Wi-Fi connection technology and also requires installation and configuration of the router.
Connection via VGA
This method of sharing sound on a computer and a TV is now practically not used and is considered obsolete. It is used only in those rare cases when a different connection option is not possible.
To connect via the VGA output, an adapter and a cable are additionally required, since the VGA interface itself does not transmit audio.
