How to choose a pillow?

Have you ever wondered: "What is a good pillow" and "What pillow to choose"? We will try to answer all your questions about choosing a pillow. How to choose a pillow should not be a secret.

So, what you should definitely pay attention to when buying a pillow?

1) How to choose a pillow in shape. In order to answer the question "How to choose a pillow for sleeping", first of all, you need to decide on the most desired shape of the pillow. When choosing a form, take into account not only your preferences, but also the sizes of pillowcases that are in your bedding set. The entire length of the pillow should in no case be greater than the width of the mattress, and high-quality pillows with a height not exceed the height of a person’s shoulder, that is 14 - 15 centimeters. Low pillows are contraindicated for those who snore in a dream, and high pillows are not suitable for large, broad-shouldered people and people with high blood pressure.

2) How to choose a pillow by color. When choosing the color of the pillow, first of all, it is worth deciding what is more important for you, wake up quickly or easily fall asleep? This factor should be decisive when choosing not only the color of the pillow, but also the pillowcase and the rest of the bedding. Dark and neutral shades can quickly put you to sleep, and saturated and bright colors will give you an excellent charge of vivacity in the morning. It’s not necessary to choose all the bedding by color, because you can create a rainbow in your bed!

3) How to choose a pillow by size. Quality and good sleeping pillows are usually square or rectangular. Now you can hardly find huge products of the size of 70x70 centimeters. They have long been supplanted by slightly elongated pillows measuring 40x60 or 50x70, as well as square ones measuring 40x40 or 50x50 centimeters. Not so long ago, domestic manufacturers took as a guideline European standards, which are approximately 50x70 centimeters, respectively, there are more and more sets of bed linen with pillowcases of this size. Since Europeans, as a rule, use several sizes of pillows at once, their bedding set includes the same sets of pillowcases. In Russia, they use only one pillow size according to the standard in one set.

The price of a pillow most often depends on the material from which it is made. The cheapest models are made of synthetic filler - polyester fiber. Polyester fiber is a hollow tube, the thickness of which determines the properties of this filler, from wool analogue to fluff analogue. It happens that the fiber is rolled into balls so that the filling misses as little as possible. There are also good pillows with holofiber filling. They are hypoallergenic, hold their shape well and even “breathe”, that is, they provide air circulation. Pillows made of synthetic fillers are quite easy to care for, can be washed in a washing machine, and they will last you quite a long time, 9-10 years. The main disadvantage of pillows with synthetic filling is that due to their elasticity they will not immediately take a convenient shape and some products may creak slightly.

Orthopedic pillow

Such a pillow supports the head and spine during sleep in the correct anatomical position, and also relieves stress on the neck and does not interfere with the outflow of blood in the soft tissues. Orthopedic pillows come in different shapes: one roll, two rolls of different heights, rectangular in shape with a recess for the back of the head, as well as classic pillows with the correct multi-layer “filling” that looks like a mattress. Orthopedic pillows are filled with latex and polyurethane foam. They hold their shape very well and create pillows from a block of polyurethane foam, which are different in stiffness. Latex models are usually more expensive, but they are durable (they will last you at least ten years) and are resilient. The tick does not live in them, but such a pillow can cause skin itching. In addition, since latex is not hygroscopic in itself, such pillows are not suitable for sweaty people, they should choose polyorioritan foam. Also, if you are tormented by insomnia, such a pillow is unlikely to help, since you need to adapt and get used to it. Therefore, do not rush to buy an orthopedic pillow without the testimony of a doctor, it is better to choose an ordinary good pillow for sleeping.
