Havana - a cat with a charming appearance and perfect character

Havana Browns are charming, playful, intelligent and people-oriented cats. They are affectionate, gentle and, unlike their Siamese counterparts, extremely quiet animals. Amazingly flexible and graceful portions adapt to any situation with self-control and confidence and do not require any special care.

Breed history

Havana Brown is an artificial hybrid resulting from the crossbreeding of brown individuals with several other breeds, such as black domestic shorthair, Russian blue and chocolate Siamese cats. This animal was the result of a carefully planned selection to obtain a very specific appearance, which is evidence that brown Siamese pussy once existed.

The breed was created by English breeders, and the usual black individuals that existed in Europe in the late 1800s were taken as the basis. Known in Europe as the Havana cat, it was first imported into North America in the mid-1950s. Shortly after the arrival of these animals, they began to be positioned in the United States as Havana Brown. This breed is recognized by the American Cat Lovers Associations CFA and AFCA, as well as the International TICA Association.

Color

The most important attribute of the breed is a luxurious glossy chocolate brown coat. This color is called Havana. The cat owes the name of its breed to the cigars of the same name, because their color surprisingly resembles the original shade of the hair of these animals.

TICA considers standard brown wool as the main sign of the breed, ranging from the color of rich mahogany to reddish-brown, and its shade should not approach black-brown. However, fawn, light lilac, and also gray individuals with pale pink tones are found. So there may be different Havana. This cat is short-haired, to the touch it is somewhat similar to a mink.

Appearance

American breeders have given their cats truly unique features. A slender and muscular body of medium size is typical of the breed. The original head shape, rich color, expressive eyes and large rounded ears made Havana Brown the most striking among other American cat breeds.

The first time they take the Havana in their hands, everyone is usually surprised, because this flexible and skinny-looking cat actually weighs more than it seems. Its head is slightly longer than wide, it tapers towards the nose and has very well-developed mustache pads. The unique pointed shape of the muzzle is often compared to a light bulb or corn cob.

The oval green eyes of such an animal as Havana are striking. A cat with such a look makes you forget about other representatives of this species. Any shade of green is acceptable, the brighter it is, the better.

The ears of the port are large, round, pointed at the ends, widely spaced and inclined slightly forward. They give the cat a wary look. The nose is brown with a pink tone, the fingertips are also light pink. The mustache of the animal must be brown. Rare hair on the chin and on the lower lip is a unique feature of this breed.

Nature and behavior

Living on the same living space with a port is both an honor and a pleasure. Human communication is a must for this breed. However, these animals get along well with other cats, dogs and children.

Of course, individual individuals differ in habits and character. Some of them may be somewhat restrained. But overall, the playful, talkative and flirtatious Havana cat. Photos allow you to make sure that these delicious chocolate figurines take part in any household chores and reserve the last word on all issues.

Compared to some shorthair breeds, Havana is considered moderately active. She loves nothing more than individual runs around the house or “catching up” with other cats. Her other favorite pastime is sweet nap. As a convenient place to sleep, she often chooses the knees of one of the family members.

Natural curiosity and friendliness - these are the qualities of the Havana cat breed. Photos of these affectionate animals cheer up even the most gloomy pessimist.

Care

Havana, being a short-haired cat, require a minimum of care and maintenance. However, it is important that they are accustomed to regular haircuts and bathing from an early age. Most pussies love attention and are happy to allow themselves to be washed with a soft rubber brush.

The front and rear claws of animals should be trimmed, and the ears and eyes should be neatly cleaned with a soft cloth. Since the harbors practically do not fade, bathing on a regular basis is not necessary, except when the cat herself shows that she does not mind refreshing herself.

Unique appearance, developed intelligence and even character - these are the qualities of the Havana cat breed. The price for them (by the way, quite high - even a kitten is cheaper than for 5 thousand rubles, you will not buy) will be the minimum payment for the comfort and pleasure that these wonderful animals will give you.
