In this short article, you'll learn how to refuel a laser printer. Any user can carry out all the work independently, there is nothing complicated. But you must be able to handle a screwdriver and sometimes with pliers. Now we’ll look at general guidelines for refilling toner cartridges. As an example, the most common printer models that are most often found in offices and homes will be given.
HP and Canon ink cartridge refills
Perhaps the best laser printer for the home is from HP or Canon. There are models that are largely similar to each other. Refueling is carried out according to the same algorithm:
- Take out the cartridge.
- Remove the cartridge side panel by unscrewing 1-2 screws.
- Pull out the magnetic shaft and drum unit.
- In the hole, which is covered by a magnetic shaft, pour new toner-paint.
Assemble in the reverse order. Most cartridges have a hole for refueling, it is covered with a plastic plug. It is worth noting that when refueling, it is not necessary to change the chip or reset the counter.
Samsung and Brother printers
These brands are a little more demanding for refueling, especially Brother. With Samsung, everything is extremely clear - you need to disassemble the cartridge and fill in new toner through the filling hole. In this case, no other manipulations are necessary. But you need to know how to refill the laser printer cartridge yourself if you have Brother. First, you have to disassemble the cartridge and fill the toner inside. Be sure to pour the residues that are in the waste bunker. You can reuse them - this is not critical.
In addition, this printer model has an integrated system that counts the number of sheets printed. Moreover, when the threshold value is reached, printing stops completely. Fortunately, such a “breakdown” can be eliminated by simple manipulations:
- Turn on the printer.
- Wait until it starts and shuts down (all the insides stop spinning).
- Press the "Back" and "Up" buttons.
- Press the "Down" button several times until the inscription "00" appears on the display.
That's all, press the "Start" button and get to work. The counter is reset and printing can continue. At the same time, refueling is not necessary.
OKI Printers
These printing machines are distinguished by the fact that they also have chips. These are small boards with microcircuits that define the resource (maximum number of pages that can be printed). As a rule, you need to replace the chip every time you refill the cartridge. We’ll talk about how to refuel laser printers of such models. First, talk about the finicky OKI:
- Refueling is infrequent, as the cartridge has (like all others) two bins - for clean toner and for waste. But to save, they are connected to each other. As a result, toner is produced for a very long time.
- The cartridge is equipped with a microchip. When a certain number of printed pages is reached, the printer just stops. Therefore, you need to replace the chip.
- In addition, sometimes (approximately once per 15,000 sheets) the printer starts to “swear” at the cartridge. Only installing a new item will help. But you can cheat. The new cartridges are fuses that burn out the first time you turn them on. At the same time, the printer “sees” a new cartridge and starts counting again. To trick the printer, it is enough to close the corresponding contacts and open them in time when turned on. For this purpose it is convenient to use an ammeter.
Xerox Printers
These printing machines are also moody, but not as much as the previous ones. How to refuel a Xerox laser printer? It is very simple to do this - remove the cartridge and fill up new toner. And sometimes you don’t even have to disassemble the unit - the filling hole is in sight. But the problem is that you need to install chips. Their cost is quite high, but some masters manage to get rid of the need to replace the chip card programmatically.
Now you know how to refuel laser printers of various models, and what nuances you may encounter at the same time. If you are not confident in your own abilities, take the cartridge to the workshop - there they will do everything much faster and still provide a guarantee for the work performed.
