If the screen flickers in the game, and not only, then this is a clear signal that the monitor is outdated or malfunctioning. However, not always everything is so unambiguous, it may be worth taking some measures before parting with the monitor.
Causes flicker
When the screen starts to flicker in the game, it not only harms the monitor itself, but also negatively affects vision.
The first reason may be the lack of demagnetization of the monitor, that is, if you do not demagnetize it for a long time, then its performance may be at risk. To eliminate this problem, you need to look at the monitor settings and select the "demagnetize monitor" function. Sometimes these buttons are located on the monitor itself.
The second (and most probable) reason for the screen flickering in the game is the incorrect monitor frequency update settings. Usually in the screen resolution settings there is an option that allows you to manually set the refresh rate of the screen. It is worth using this function and setting the maximum value or choosing the number opposite which is marked “recommended”.
The third item is responsible for checking the video card, the drivers of which may be incorrectly installed or are outdated. To fix the problem on the part of the video card, you should go to the website of the manufacturer of the graphics processor and install fresh drivers from there.
There is still such an unpleasant thing as viruses, to which the fourth point applies. The flickering of the screen in the game may be the result of "uninvited guests" on the territory of the operating system. To cope with the problem caused by viruses, it is worth updating the existing antivirus, running system diagnostics and getting rid of viruses.
The last reason may lie in the components of the computer itself - the monitor and video card. To check the video card and monitor, you should take the equipment to a computer service or call the wizard at home.
Monitor Drivers
It is worth installing drivers on the monitor, as well as on the rest of the equipment in the computer and peripherals. It is better to install them from the disk that was bundled with the monitor.
If flickering of the image on the monitor appeared after reinstalling the operating system, this is due to the fact that some drivers (not only the monitor) may not work correctly after this manipulation. To eliminate such a nuisance, you just need to reinstall the drivers on the monitor.
Technical part
Before sending a video card or monitor for diagnosis, it’s worth checking the cable itself, which transfers the image from the graphic adapter to the screen, for operability. To check the operability of the cable, disconnect it and insert a similar one in its place. If the problem is gone, then the problem is in the cable itself, and if not, it is worth checking the connectors for proper operation.
Another solution to the problem is to connect the computer to another monitor. This method will make it clear that the matter is in it or vice versa.
The same method is worth trying on a graphics adapter, which can also junk, giving out "artifacts" in games. The fact is that under heavy loads the video card has the property of heating up, and when the cooling system fails, the graphic card starts to give one failure after another, distorting the image on the monitor.
Video Card Testing
To make sure that the video card is working, it is enough to conduct testing, which becomes possible thanks to the AIDA 64 program. This software is needed for a complete diagnosis of the system, that is, for each individual component.
To work with the utility, you must download and install it. Next, you need to run the program and use the menu, which is located on the left side. In the enumeration column, select the "Computer" tab, inside which is the "Sensor" option. By clicking on this tab, you can see (on the right side) that the temperature regimes of heating components began to be displayed. If the temperature of the video card does not exceed 65 degrees Celsius, then it does not undergo overheating.
Non-standard solution to the problem
In the event that all of the above options did not give a positive result, it is worth using another way to solve the problem of why the screen flickers.
This method is suitable mainly if the nuisance arises only when in games.
So, the problem is that the plug of the monitor, which is inserted into the outlet, touches the ground contacts. They look like metal "antennae", which are located next to the holes for the plug.
The way out of this situation is both simple and complex, as getting rid of the "antennae" will require the skills of an electrician. After removing them, the monitor should not show flicker.
Ideally, it is better to install sockets without such "add-ons", as they can sometimes negatively affect the operation of the equipment.
