How to care for a rat: maintenance and nutrition

Choosing a pet is a matter of taste. Based on the fact that often in our homes there is not much space, and we ourselves do not have much time for walking with a pet, we should pay attention to a small, nimble, omnipresent animal - a decorative rat. Her eyes, like beads, smooth hair, and an extraordinary mind will win your heart. In order for the animal to live comfortably with you, you should read the information on how to care for the rat.

The ability to remember your name and respond to it indicates that these rodents have a certain mind. They quickly learn to navigate in space, are easy to train, adore the owner, enjoy playing and frolic. Decorative rats are unpretentious in content, but there are small subtleties in matters of how to care for a rat.

The rat is a rodent, therefore, it will try on the tooth everything that seems to it a little edible. While walking around the apartment, she can not only spoil your things, but also will mark the territory, and although this liquid is odorless and very little is released, it will also be inconvenient. Therefore, when walking around the apartment, it is better to constantly keep the animal in sight.

There are some tips on how to care for a rat: a cage, like with hamsters and guinea pigs, should not be placed in a draft or in direct sunlight. The temperature in the room where the rodent is kept should be in the range from 18 to 21 degrees - this is the most comfortable temperature regime, and just then the rodent will feel comfortable.

Particular attention should be paid to the cage in which your animal will be kept: it should be spacious enough, equipped with ladders and various toys (decorative rat - a very active animal), you will also need a place where the rat will take refuge for sleep and rest. You can buy a specialized house in a pet store (where you can also get information on how to care for a rat), and if necessary, make it yourself from cardboard or wood. In the cage, you can place various items suitable for playing (wheels, pipe, driftwood, rope ladder , etc.). You can purchase several animals of the same sex at once and watch their fun pastime.

Caring for a decorative rat is really straightforward, it is better to lay the bottom of the cage with paper (preferably not newspaper), shavings of deciduous trees, but small sawdust can get into the eyes of a rodent or cause allergies. The cell should be cleaned at least once a week, if it is contaminated, then more often, and disinfection should be carried out once a month. This will enable the prevention of diseases of decorative rats.

Take care of a good drinker, better than a special one for rodents purchased at a pet store. If you use a saucer, the water in it will stagnate, moreover, it is easy to turn it over.

Feeding rats involves the use of diverse and wholesome food. Rats love cereals: wheat, oats, barley, millet, in addition, you should take care of vitamins and minerals. It is good to add boiled liver, kidneys, heart to the diet. To grind your teeth you need to give pine nuts and hazelnuts, chicken bones.

Rats like to feast on fruits and berries (apples, pears, citrus fruits, plums, ripe bananas, apricots, dates, grapes, persimmons, cherries, raisins, raspberries, strawberries, currants). Kids need to be fed more often - up to 4 times a day, and an adult rat is enough 2 times. Do not spoil the animal’s stomach with fatty, fried foods, chocolate, raw potatoes, beans, cabbage, artichokes.

Having appeared in your house, a decorative rat will fill it with love and affection and will bring you many pleasant minutes.
