What an amazing creature - a telescope fish! When you see her for the first time, you can’t even believe that these huge bulging eyes are real. And with what dignity she moves around the aquarium, moving an impressive veil tail. True, it is worth throwing food into the water, there is no trace of phlegm and calm: the telescope is a gluttonous fish, like most gold ones, it will never miss a chance to eat.
A little about breed standards: a telescope fish has a rounded body with a swollen front. Its height is more than half the length, which makes this aquarium inhabitant look like a ball. The caudal fin is always directed vertically downward, although its shape may be different: ribbon or skirt.
As for the main feature, the unique decoration that the telescope fish - the eye possesses, they are spherical, cylindrical or conical, but should always be symmetrical with respect to each other. The larger the eyes - the more beautiful the fish is considered, although this gives it certain inconvenience. The iris is always transparent - this is a sign of the health of the fish, and therefore an indisputable plus to its beauty.
What color are these goldfish? Not only classic black, but also orange, red or chintz. By the way, it is not constant and can lighten (which is especially annoying for the black velvet variety) from imperfect conditions and inappropriate food. In general, the telescope fish is omnivorous: it eats dry food and live, as well as plant additives, instantly and with great appetite, although the best results of the exterior appear, of course, on live food.
You can keep this view only in a carefully thought out and prepared aquarium. Nothing should be a danger to the delicate eye vesicles. Soil - only rolled pebbles or sand, plants - only with delicate leaves. True, such plants can exist together with the main inhabitants of the reservoir for a very short time: a telescope fish will bite them on one of the unloading days. By the way, unloading should be arranged at least once a week, otherwise your pet will face obesity and death.
Neighbors for the telescope need to choose peace-loving, with a calm disposition. They look best in the company of veil tail and orand, in addition, these species have similar conditions of detention and diet. The larger the volume of the aquarium, the stronger the fish grow, and for our heroes, size matters. Only large, well-formed individuals really “catch their eye”. On them you can see every scale.
Water quality is extremely important in keeping these fish. It should be filtered at a speed of at least three volumes per hour, that is, for a 100-liter aquarium, select a filter with a capacity of 300. From time to time, as the dirt gets dirty, you need to clean the trash from the bottom, washing the soil, otherwise, digging in it, the fish may get irritated and eye damage.
Propagating these goldfish is quite simple: they select producers older than two years of age who start mating games in early spring. Are males chasing females and swimming near their oviduct? Do they acquire a special color and grow with small white dots on the gill covers? So, it's time for these instances to become parents. For the role of mothers, adult females with bellies full of caviar are chosen.
Spawning is prepared in advance, its volume should not be less than 50 liters, and the water temperature is set higher than in the main aquarium by 3-5 degrees. At the bottom of the dishes lay a grid, covering it with several plants. After spawning, the fish are returned back. Fry swim in 2-5 days, after a month, they are calibrated by size, otherwise large ones will eat small ones. In the early days, juveniles are fed with live dust (ciliates), and then with rotifers and brine shrimp.
