Akita breed - Inu

Real story

The film "Hachiko: the most faithful friend" is based on real events that occurred in Japan at the beginning of the 20th century.

In the Japanese city of Akita, which is located on the northeast coast of the Sea of Japan, there are several attractions. These are beautiful girls, strong sake and a monument. It would seem that what could be unusual in a sculpture depicting a dog? And why are flowers constantly laid at its foot? Because it is a symbol of devotion and great love. Dog's love for the owner.

There was a famous professor of agriculture in the city named Hidesaburo Ueno. He taught his discipline at the University of Tokyo, which he once graduated from. Students loved their teacher. But he became famous not at all for becoming a professor. And not because he singled out agricultural technology as a separate specialization.

Professor Ueno was very fond of animals. He was a terrible dog lover. He already had 7 dogs. And in 1923, another Akita Inu breed appeared. It was just that a bitch brought puppies from a friend of the farmer, and he decided to give the best baby from the litter to the professor.

The puppy received the name Hachiko. "Hati" in translation from Japanese - "eight." The suffix "ko" means "affection." Therefore, Hachiko is the eighth affection of the professor. The name turned out to be prophetic.

He waited 10 years

Before and after

2 years have passed. Akita Inu Hachiko grew up and turned into a beautiful young dog. He dearly loved his master and was so attached to him that he accompanied regularly. I accompanied and met from work. The professor had to travel to the university by train every day. And the dog followed him to the railway station, and in the evening came there to meet his beloved master.

On May 21, 1925, Hachiko's dog, as always, took its owner to work. But since then she had no one to meet. The professor died during a lecture, his heart stopped. And the doctors were unable to help the man.

How to explain to the dog that the owner is no more? It's impossible. The faithful dog for another ten long years came to meet his master at the station.

They tried to tame him, but Hachiko is a model of devotion. Each time he stubbornly returned to his usual place, running away from the new owners. And the dog spent the night under the porch of the old house in which they once lived with the owner. Now this house, empty and abandoned, is boarded up.

The animal was fed by everyone who knew the professor and his dog. One of Mr. Ueno’s students became an Akita Inu breed expert. And he met Hachiko. Struck by such devotion, that student decided to organize a census of all the dogs of this breed. As a result of his labors, 30 such animals were found.

March 8, 1935, after waiting 10 years, a faithful dog left the world. He died at that very station, without waiting for his beloved master.

The same Hachiko

Monument

Hachiko is a symbol of incredible devotion. And people, worshiping a dog, erected a monument during his lifetime. A bronze image was installed in Tokyo.

During the war, like many monuments of those times, this one was re-melted and put into the “right cause”. However, in 1948, it was possible to find the son of the sculptor who made the image of Hachiko. The primary place where the monument to Hachiko is installed took on a new image of him.

Film

In 1987, the Japanese released a film telling about the sad history of Hachiko. And in 2009, the American version of the film was released, which immediately gained wild popularity among viewers around the world. Hachiko becomes the idol of millions, and the Akita Inu breed is a symbol of devotion.

The plot was based on real events. However, minor adjustments to the movie were still made.

A university professor travels to work by train every day. One day, returning home, he notices a little puppy at the station. Doggie does not look like a mongrel, well-groomed and in a collar. The station manager offers the man to pick up the baby for himself, since the boss does not have the opportunity to leave him.

The professor brings the puppy home and hides in his office. The fact is that he lives with his wife and daughter. The wife does not like animals, so the teacher is convinced that the puppy is in his house only one night.

However, little Hachiko had a different opinion. Neither the next day nor the next week the previous owners showed up. The professor’s wife begins to lose his temper, and in order not to provoke a scandal, he is trying to attach a cute baby in good hands. When he manages to do this, his wife's heart trembled. Hachiko stays in the professor's house.

A significant role in this decision was played by the daughter of a professor, who fell in love with a funny plush peanut.

Time passes, a handsome dog grows out of a cute and charming puppy. He is devoted to his master, loves him to madness and every day escorts to work. After spending, he returns home, and then runs to the railway station - to meet.

Once the usual family way breaks death. Death of the master of the house. The wife and daughter decide to move, they take with them Hachiko. But Hachiko - this is not the dog who so easily forgets her beloved owner. The dog escapes and returns to the station. Wait and hope.

He will wait another 10 years. But pointless.

The owner with Hachiko

One of the hard moments

Perhaps the most touching episode in the film, which tells about the dog Hachiko, can be considered the arrival in the city of the widow of the deceased professor. She meets a dog at the train station. The dog is no longer young, its coat has fallen off and become dirty, one ear is hanging, and his eyes are dull. A woman looks at him, and then asks permission to sit next to him. Talking with a dog for a long time. Finally, he rises and asks him to go with her. Hachiko continues to sit still and look at his former owner. The widow cries, sits down at the dog, hugs her neck tightly and leaves.

Symbol of fidelity

Breed

Hachiko is an Akita Inu. The breed of dogs appeared in ancient times. It got its name in honor of the city near which its birth began. These were the favorites of hunters, and reverence for the breed was simply inconceivable. Anyone who offended the dog was punished. For the death of Akita, the killer paid his own life.

In rich houses, the dog had its own servants. They talked with animals respectfully and gently, not allowing a raised tone to them.

Over time, everything has changed. Dogs have become more accessible to ordinary people. And during the Second World War, the situation with the main property of Japan became completely deplorable. Almost all animals died, and the breed was threatened with complete extinction.

The efforts of Japanese breeders were not in vain: the breed was restored. Now they are loyal and intelligent animals with desperate courage. Great friends and companions. And the history of Hachiko brought the breed unprecedented popularity in the world.

Grave of the faithful dog

Conclusion

Hachiko is a symbol of love and devotion. The one that people never learned.

By the way, speaking about this situation. In Russia, in the city of Tolyatti, a monument to a German shepherd named Konstantin is installed. His story is similar to the story of a Japanese "colleague." So, on this monument there is an engraving: "To the dog who taught us love and devotion." And the caption: "people."
