Border tape: selection, installation and areas of application in the garden

Curb tape is a little trick of a modern gardener. It allows you to inexpensively and almost instantly change the appearance of the site, to make the beds, beds or edges of the paths neat, distinguish zones and make it easier to care for plants. These rolls of multi-colored plastic can be very widely used in decorating a garden or kitchen garden.

Flower beds

The flower garden is a decoration of the garden, therefore strict requirements are imposed on it. Whichever form you choose to place decorative plants - a flower bed, a discount or a mixborder - they should look aesthetically pleasing. It is the border tape that will help create a clearly defined contour of any configuration. At the same time, it will also facilitate watering, weeding, mulching and other regular care. Soil and fertilizers will not fall onto the track after rain, since plastic can firmly hold all this within the flower garden.

Rock garden

The rock garden (multi-tiered flowerbed) must be built strong, able to withstand rains, winds and other influences. The border strip in this regard is very convenient - it bends at any angle, holds its shape well, it is easy to make "multi-story" structures from it.

Lawn

A clearly defined lawn that does not crawl out onto the track looks well-groomed and pleases the eye. Such an effect will help to create a narrow green ribbon.

Beds

The border strip for beds will not only add attractiveness to plantings, but will also help save water. The moisture that comes in during irrigation accumulates where it is needed, without spreading to nearby areas, so its flow rate decreases, and the time between waterings increases.

Tracks

If you protect the track with a plastic border, this will protect it from weeds and soil shedding from the beds. In this case, you can lay out a path of any shape, the flexibility of the material allows such experiments.

Which border tape is better?

All tapes are made of neutral, environmentally friendly plastic. Most often, Russian (cheapest), Chinese, Polish and German (most expensive) are on sale. The width of the border tape can be 10, 15, 20 or 28 centimeters. Thickness varies from half a millimeter to two mm. These parameters affect the cost of the product. The most convenient in operation is a border tape of maximum thickness. The reinforced edge will give it greater strength, however, to the detriment of elasticity.

A high-quality product has the following properties: resistance to sunlight, which allows not to fade and not heat up, the ability to withstand temperatures from -50 to +50 degrees. In addition, plastic does not rustle in the rain, does not rot and does not decompose, does not release toxic substances into the soil and does not contribute to the development of mold. Usually a border tape serves 5 years.

Installation

First you need to outline the contour of the future beds or flower beds in order to have an idea of how the border tape will be installed. Photos of various options for such facilities can be found in landscape design magazines. You can also come up with something of your own, suitable in general mood for the design of the site or garden in order to maximize its useful area. If you plan to plant annuals, then you can tack the tape by 10 centimeters, for perennial plants it is better to deepen it by 20. Bends of the contour are created due to driven in pegs. For installation, two people are needed - one pulls the tape, and the second densely sprinkles it with earth.

If the length is not enough, the beginning of the next can be welded to the end of one roll with a hot soldering iron. If there is excess, then the plastic can easily be cut with a garden pruner or large scissors.
