If we compare the Oled monitor with a liquid crystal (LCD), then its matrix is formed from special compounds of an organic nature, which are able to glow under the influence of electric current. But in the latter, on the contrary, the cells are made of inorganic material and cannot emit light themselves. The voltage applied can only change the spatial orientation of each crystal in the cell by increasing or decreasing the light flux from the backlight system (cold cathode tubes or LEDs) located on the back of the matrix.We did not in vain recall the similarity of the two solutions. Features
One of the advantages of the new technology is the lack of backlight. In traditional TFT monitors, there is a problem of uniformity of the glow of the screen, caused by the peculiarity of the placement of backlight (or diode bars). It is economically unprofitable to make the entire surface behind the matrix light-emitting, and any other arrangement is a compromise between uniformity and price / economy. Oled is basically devoid of this feature: the glow is even, the black color is deep and saturated, as it should be.Another advantage is the excellent viewing angles: the famous distortion from the side view is completely absent.
The thickness of the monitor has become less than that of models with LED backlighting, and the control circuit has been simplified (finally you can forget about PWM).
Perhaps the only drawback is associated with a shorter service life - diodes simply burn out. However, obsolescence and generational change of monitors are much faster, so you should not really worry about it.
