Akita Inu is one of the oldest dog breeds. Despite their independent, proud and independent disposition, these animals are considered a true symbol of devotion. Residents of the Land of the Rising Sun make legends about them, write books and erect monuments to them. After reading this article, you will find out what care a Japanese like requires.
Brief historical background
Detailed genetic studies suggest that the animals of this breed came from ancient Spitz-like dogs that lived in the II millennium. Many images have survived to this day, on which dogs are painted, outwardly very reminiscent of modern Akita Inu.
Japan is considered the birthplace of these animals. The formation of the breed took place mainly in the small provincial city of Akita, located on the island of Honshu. Apparently, this explains the name of the dogs. Initially, the like (Japanese) was bred for hunting wild boars, deer and even bears. Several trained dogs could easily hold a large beast until the arrival of the hunter.
At home, these dogs quickly gained respect and popularity. They were considered a symbol of family well-being and wealth. Severe punishment awaited someone who would offend a Japanese Laika dog (akita inu).
Exterior Features
These are well-built, strong and muscular animals with a heavy short-faced head and a slightly stretched body. A fairly tall husky (Japanese) is remembered for its original appearance. The combination of a wide forehead, upright open ears and small eyes makes it look like a fox, a wolf and a bear at the same time. These animals are considered the largest of all spitz-shaped. The height of adults is 67-74 centimeters.
The body of the Japanese Laika animal breed (photo will be presented below) is covered with rather coarse five-centimeter hair with a soft thick undercoat. The color of these dogs can be fawn, red, white and even brindle. It is important that it is clean, without streaks. Spots should have clear, not vague contours.
Character
Laika (Japanese) is a very independent, independent and assertive animal. Therefore, the training of these dogs should be done by an experienced specialist. A beginner is unlikely to be able to cope with such a difficult task. Akita needs a demanding, persistent and confident owner.
Despite the wayward character, these animals will take root perfectly in any family. The main thing to consider before buying such an animal is its need for physical activity, and sometimes solitude. Such a dog must definitely highlight its own corner in which no one will disturb it.
It should be noted that by the age of two, a Japanese like becomes more restrained. However, behind the mask of silent confidence lies a friendly and sensitive creature. These dogs are wary of strangers and undisguised aggression towards their relatives.
Feeding and care
Akita Inu is not too picky about food. They can be fed the same foods as other dogs. It is important to immediately determine what you will give your pet - dry or natural food. Choosing the second option, you should understand that the dog's diet should contain vegetables, fruits, veal, low-fat cottage cheese, rice, boiled sea fish and seafood. Purebred animals are often allergic to fatty dairy products, beef, chicken, oatmeal, corn and wheat porridge.
As for dry food, before you buy it for your pet, you need to carefully study the composition. It is difficult for Akits to choose a suitable brand of ready-made mixtures, since in most of them soy is poorly absorbed by these dogs. Ideally, you need to opt for a feed that has a single source of protein (duck or fish).
The coat of these dogs does not require special care. It does not need to be cut or trimmed. It is quite enough to comb out the animal several times a week with a special brush. Shed Japanese likes twice a year. As a rule, this period stretches for several weeks, so at this time you need to comb them daily with a set of combs designed for thick short hair. As for water hygiene procedures, it is recommended to bathe Akita no more than once a year. Otherwise, dog hair will lose its waterproofing properties.
