How to color Easter eggs

Why is it customary to paint eggs for Easter? Where did this tradition come from?

The biblical tradition says that Mary Magdalene gave the Roman emperor Tiberius an egg, saying the phrase: "Christ is Risen!" The monarch did not believe what was said and said that resurrection from the dead is impossible - it’s the same as a white egg can turn into a red one. And only these words sounded, the white egg turned bright red. So there was a tradition to paint Easter eggs, which exists to this day.

Many housewives traditionally paint eggs three days before Easter - on Clean Thursday. There are tons of different methods. To do this, use special food colors or use juices of various vegetables to produce different colors. For example, in order to color Easter eggs in light yellow or red-brown colors, you need to cook them in onion husks. The color intensity will depend on the amount of husk. Beetroot juice allows you to color eggs from light pink to burgundy. The longer the time the eggs interact with the juice, the more intense the shade will be. Also, a decoction of birch leaves is used for coloring. With it, the eggs are stained yellow or golden.





Easter eggs are called “puppies”. And "Easter eggs" are called those that are beautifully painted by hand.

To get various patterns on the eggs without using their visual abilities, the housewives resort to various methods.

You can get a speckled drawing if, before cooking, in a coloring composition, roll wet eggs in dry rice and wrap in gauze. Rice should stick well to the egg, so the ends of the gauze should be tightly tied with a thread.

To get the effect of marble on an egg, wrap them in onion husks and tie them on top with cotton material, the folds of which will leave imprints on the shell.

Another interesting way to get patterns on eggs is dyeing in flaps. To do this, find multi-colored shreds of silk fabric that easily fade. Wrap the washed eggs with silk, then with a rag, tie with a thread, dip in warm water and cook 10 minutes after boiling.

To get eggs with beautiful patterns, you need tape. We cut out various figures from it - flowers, hearts, stars. Glue the resulting patterns on cooked and dried eggs and paint in any of the ways. After the eggs have cooled, carefully remove the tape. It turned out beautiful Easter eggs with patterns! Also, to obtain patterns, you can use beautiful leaves of different plants. Gather various blades of grass and flowers, firmly press them to the boiled white eggs and securely fasten with nylon threads. After that, you can start staining in a way convenient for you.

You can also dye eggs in two colors by dipping different halves in turn into food colors of various shades. The place of transition of flowers can be tied with a ribbon.

Many decorate already painted eggs with various stickers. It looks very interesting. There are even special films that, when exposed to hot water, wrap the egg tightly around it, creating the effect of "Easter egg".
