Sage during pregnancy: methods of use, indications and contraindications

It is clear to everyone that the period of pregnancy is not the right time for a variety of diseases. But, as luck would have it, it is when a woman is carrying her baby that something always happens: it feels sore in the throat, then her ears hurt, then her nose "does not breathe."

Of course, in these cases, no one wants to immediately turn to medications. Therefore, many try to use traditional medicine recipes with the traditional use of a variety of herbs. Making an independent decision to use this or that herb, pregnant women do not even think about the fact that some plants can be exactly more dangerous and harmful than medications during this period. An example is sage.

You are responsible for the child

Should I use sage during pregnancy

Can sage be given during pregnancy? Absolutely not. Sage has a whole set of useful properties: it helps to strengthen memory and rejuvenation; eliminates frigidity, gynecological diseases, gastritis, gum disease; relieves fatigue and much more. But to women bearing their babies, it is categorically contraindicated. That is, sage during pregnancy should not be taken in any form. Do not forget that during this period you are responsible not only for yourself, but also for the one who is inside you. It is very important!

Sage stimulates uterine contractions

Why is sage so dangerous during pregnancy

What is this plant dangerous for the future mother and her baby?

  • Sage has an effect on the hormonal background of a pregnant woman: there is a change in the amount of such hormones as estradiol and progesterone, the level of which is crucial in the development of the baby and the normal course of pregnancy. The first is significantly increased, and the second is reduced. An increase in the level of estradiol (which, incidentally, during pregnancy increases to the maximum permissible size) does not bode well. A decrease in progesterone can lead to a strong contraction of the uterus and an inevitable miscarriage.
  • When using sage, the blood pressure of a pregnant woman can jump up sharply. It is very dangerous.
Sage is prohibited during pregnancy

  • The plant stimulates uterine contractions. The result may be premature birth or miscarriage.
  • The use of grass can provoke the formation of blood clots, since the substances that make up the plant contribute to blood coagulation (that is, it becomes more viscous and its speed slows down). As a result, certain problems with blood circulation begin, which, as a result, lead to a lack of oxygen in the blood. And this necessarily affects the development of the baby.
  • Sage can disrupt placental circulation, as a result of which the amount of oxygen and nutrients entering the baby is significantly reduced. This can cause slow growth and development of the fetus.

From the foregoing, it becomes clear that the use of sage is unsafe for both the mother and her baby.

Sage candies and lozenges

Many people wonder if it is possible lozenges, lozenges or sage tablets during pregnancy? In no case do not experiment. The fact is that in the process of resorption of candies or lozenges with sage, their active components will certainly get into the digestive tract and blood. This will create a certain threat to the normal bearing of the baby, provoking processes such as miscarriage, detachment of the placenta and childbirth ahead of time.

Pills are even worse than lozenges and lozenges, since the amount of active ingredients in them is approximately twice as large.

Sage in the early stages of bearing a child

The first trimester of pregnancy is a very dangerous period, since the internal organs of the baby are only just beginning to emerge. In this situation, the slightest interference can have dire consequences. During this period, one must be extremely careful in taking certain drugs. What can we say about sage, which includes a huge amount of chemically active substances. Their presence may adversely affect the laying of the organs and tissues of the child. Even a minimal amount of sage during pregnancy can be a cause of malformations. Therefore, take care of yourself and the health of your baby and do not use this plant at an early stage.

Sage in late pregnancy

Can sage be used during late pregnancy? Purely theoretically, during the third trimester (especially in the middle), childbirth can happen, although prematurely. Therefore, sage in this period simply categorically can not be taken, since its use can provoke a contraction of the uterus and, as a result, contractions.

Immediately before and after childbirth

Before birth and after, you should also not use dosage forms, which include sage. The reason is that a medicinal plant helps to reduce lactation (that is, to reduce the amount of breast milk). The child will have to be transferred to artificial feeding. And this is not at all good for the baby.

When can sage help a pregnant woman?

The medicinal properties and contraindications of sage indicate that this is a fairly useful plant, but not for pregnant women. They can only use it externally, with the following goals:

  • prevention of varicose veins and reduction of edema;
  • fatigue relief;
  • improvement of the psychoemotional state;
  • use as an antiseptic;
  • the implementation of inhalations and rinses;
  • conducting aromatherapy sessions.
