Roof rails in the kitchen: design, main types and features of the installation

The roof rails in the kitchen were probably invented by very practical people, because their use, on the one hand, allows you to save free space in this room, and on the other hand, makes it easy to clean up the supplies of small kitchen utensils. Thanks to this useful invention, all frequently used items are always visible, and you only have to reach out to quickly get the right thing at the moment.

Construction, decoration and materials

The word "rail" in translation from English means a rail or rail. Actually, this part is usually presented in the form of a crossbar with a diameter of 1.5 to 2 cm and is the main part of the railing system. The whole structure consists of a tube inserted in special holders, which, in turn, can be attached to any vertical surface. The rails in the kitchen are made of various lengths, but their sizes do not create any special difficulties: if necessary, the rail can always be sawn, and the ends can be closed with special decorative caps. There are bent pipe systems for corner space. Now let's talk about what rails for the kitchen are made of. Chrome and nickel deposited on steel are found most often, but at the same time brass models also come across. Valuable metals, including gold, are used as sputtering in prestigious systems.

Types and equipment

All roof rails in the kitchen can be divided into two large groups: horizontal and vertical. The latter are most often used in kitchens of an island or peninsular type. On such systems, rotating shelves are installed where you can place anything. The difference between horizontal and vertical rails is only in the installation features. S-hooks, metal mesh shelves, holders for foil, paper towels and plastic film, retainer magnets for knives and other useful accessories are used as attachments.

Where and how to hang railing in the kitchen

Typically, devices of this type are installed in the apron area (the so-called wall space between the upper and lower kitchen cabinets). Sometimes rails in the kitchen are suspended in front or at the end of the countertop. Even less often, they are fixed on the hood, so that they hang literally under the ceiling. As for the installation, it is quite possible to cope with it yourself. Initially, markings are made at the planned installation sites using the building level. Then the screws are selected (if those that come with the kit do not fit), small holes are drilled in the wall and the final installation is performed. Installation features depend on the type of railing, but at the same time there are several general rules:

  1. The choice of fasteners depends on the wall material. When installing, it is advisable to take into account the possibility of removal.
  2. Roof rails in the kitchen should hang securely. If the hostess, while cooking, pulls strongly on a towel or something else, then the system must withstand such a load.
  3. If the length of the device exceeds 100 cm, then the mount must be installed in at least three places.
  4. If there are several rails, it is recommended to adhere to symmetry during installation.
  5. During installation, the holders are positioned so that the screws are in a position in which they will not be noticeable.
