Composing a large bouquet of roses or receiving it as a birthday present (which, undoubtedly, is much more pleasant), it is worth considering what needs to be done so that it stands longer. After all, such a beauty, firstly, costs a lot of money, and secondly, it is a pity after all, if it fades on the second or third day. Therefore, there are several rules for composing bouquets.
Physiology of colors
It turns out that not all types of roses are combined yet! Therefore, in the matter of how to keep roses longer, you need to understand the varieties. Metabolism products of one species can adversely affect the health of another. As for compatibility with other flowers, roses are very moody in this regard. To them in the bouquet you can add only lilies, geraniums, decorative greens. In no case can you combine too sharply smelling flowers with them - violets or sweet peas, lilies of the valley or magnolias.
It is also worth paying attention to the time of day at which you give roses. It is said that dark roses are better at transmitting light during the day, while light from chandeliers and lamps perceive light flowers well.
We select a vase
And here, too, there are nuances. For example, if the bouquet is short but lush, it needs a corresponding wide vase. It’s better to untie the ribbons right away and let the flowers breathe and bloom. Tall stems need a thin and long vase.
When thinking about how to keep roses longer, you should pay attention to the composition of flowers in one vase: it is not necessary to buy all the buds that have opened, it is much better if half is closed, then the bouquet will self-renew every day. Pay attention to the tone of the vase - it is better to choose one-color (from ceramics or porcelain) to such a bouquet.
How to keep roses in a vase longer?
Here are the basic rules for beautiful royal flowers:
- The just-given bouquet of roses should be cut to about 1/3 (if you want to keep the stems long, then at least 1/4), clean from thorns and lower leaves. Cut obliquely so that there are no air jams in the green “vessels”.
- You can go the easy way and use preservatives sold in flower stalls. And you can cook them yourself: for example, sugar and salt help in preserving a bouquet of roses for longer (2-3 tsp is enough for a large volume of water).
- In addition to crystalline powders, roses perceive acidic liquids well: add a tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice. The Aspirin tablet, dissolved in 1 liter of water, is also suitable.
- Interestingly: in ancient times, flowers were stored in a silver vessel, because they stood three times longer. So, we lower a silver spoon or a ring to the bottom of the vase, after which for a long time we admire the blossoming buds.
What water to choose for a bouquet? Of course, given the quality of the water from our pipelines, it is better to prepare the settled liquid in advance. It should be cool, but not cold! It should be changed daily, not too lazy to wash the stems under the tap. It is also worth spraying leaves and buds from a spray bottle.
By the way, melt snow or rain water is the best drink for these plants. If it is possible to keep flowers in it, do not hesitate, this is the best way to preserve roses for longer.
