The Clavicus Vile mask from The Elder Scrolls game series is a unique Daedra artifact endowed with extraordinary power. The subject appears immediately in four games in the series, starting with Daggerfall and ending with Skyrim. Externally, the mask is a closed helmet with horns, which resembles a bearded human face.
Who is Clavicus Vile?
One of the Daedric princes involved in the fulfillment of desires and the drafting of contracts. Outwardly, Clavicus looks like an ordinary man, with the exception of one conspicuous detail - horns on his head. As a constant companion, Daedra has a watchdog named Barbas, which also conceals a piece of the soul of the prince himself.
Clavicus Vile is an unrivaled diplomat. His external attractiveness and ability to compose an interlocutor to himself help to avoid excessive cruelty when exposed to mortals. Compared to many other Daedric princes, Clavicus very often shows his gracious side and is always ready to reward his minions for completed tasks.
Legend
The Clavicus Vile Mask is a personal artifact of the Daedric Prince. Those who wear a mask can become much more attractive in the eyes of others than he was before this moment. According to one legend, once a certain noblewoman named Avaleya put on a mask on herself - as a child she was mutilated by an evil servant. The artifact fell into her hands after concluding a dark deal with Clavicus Vile himself. Unfortunately, the mask could not physically change the appearance of Avalei, however, those around began to see a real beauty in the girl. After some time, the noblewoman married the noble baron. When the girl was pregnant, Clavicus decided to take his artifact back. As a result, Avaley was expelled from the estate along with the unborn child. 21 years and 1 day passed, and the daughter of the noblewoman returned to her father in order to kill him and thereby avenge the crippled fate of her mother.
How to get Clavicus Vile mask in Skyrim?
In order to become the owner of a daedric artifact in TES V, you must go through a special quest. It is called "Dog - a friend of the Daedra," and opens only after the main character reaches level 10. On the way to Falkrit, one of the guards will meet us and ask about some dog. From a conversation with him we learn that a certain Lod wants to find the lost dog, which also offers a good reward for the return of the animal. After that we go to the forge, where the same Lod is located. From him we learn information about how you can get to the next necessary location.
Quest completion
We go to the designated location, where we find the missing animal. It turns out that this dog is not quite ordinary, and its owner is Clavicus Vile himself - the Daedric prince of desires. By the way, we learn the truth from the dog itself, which, fluent in the human language, appears to be Barbas and asks us for one service. The fact is that the owner of Barbas drove him away, and now the dog needs someone who could convince Daedra to take the pet back.
After that, you need to follow the animals to the Heimar Cave. By the way, if you don’t feel like walking, you can just teleport to the indicated location, and Barbas will automatically appear there. There are many vampires in the cave, so you have to break through the force. Barbas also will not stand aside and will help during each battle. At the end of the cave there will be an altar and a huge statue depicting Clavicus Vile and his faithful companion. A voice will speak with us that belongs to the Daedric prince himself. Clavicus will thank us for the work done to destroy the vampires, explaining that those killed were once his followers, asking Daedra to save them from the infection. After that, the prince will give us one more task: we need to bring him an artifact called the Ax of Sorrow. By the way, our choice in the dialogue does not affect anything, so we won’t be able to refuse the quest.
Grab Barbas (he comes with us) and go to the next location marked on the map. We carry out everything necessary and pick up the Ax of Sorrow. Finally, we return to the statue of Clavicus and present him an artifact. The Daedra, in turn, will make a new proposal: we can leave this ax to ourselves, but only if we agree to kill Barbas with it. Our goal is Clavicus Vile's mask (in Skyrim it can be obtained only in this way), so the prince’s offer will have to be rejected. At the end of the quest, we will receive the coveted artifact, and Barbas (safe and sound!) And the Ax of Sorrow will remain with Daedra.
