Historical reference
The celebration of Mother's Day, according to historians, is rooted in antiquity. The Greeks prototype of this holiday was the veneration of the goddess Gaia, the Romans held colorful mysteries in honor of the Great Ancestress. The Celts had similar honors when they glorified the goddess Bridget.
Mother's Day in Europe and America has been officially celebrated since the beginning of the last century. Although since the XVII century during Lent, "Mother's Sundays" were established. These
days, children who flew out of their parents' nests flew back with gifts bought with their money.
Persistent lady
The holiday was due to a certain Anna Jervis, who in 1907 very persistently pursued her goal. She bombarded various authorities with letters asking them to officially approve the holiday dedicated to mothers. She was driven by a feeling for her own mother, unfortunately, prematurely gone. The efforts of the citizen came true: in 1910 in Virginia , Mother's Day was first celebrated.
Interestingly, 37 years earlier, another lady - Julia Ward Howe - also insisted on introducing this holiday into civilian life. But her efforts were unsuccessful, perhaps because she positioned her mother as a fighter for peace, and did not promote her natural role.
Their morals
There is no international date for the celebration of Mother’s Day, so it is customary to celebrate it on different days in different countries.
For example, in Poland it falls on May 26, and in Belarus coincides with the religious date - the Protection of the Holy Virgin (October 14). The British celebrate Mother's Day on March 22, and the Swedes and French - on the last Sunday of May. Uzbeks congratulate their mothers with all the women on March 8, Kazakhs on September 14, and Georgians on March 3.
Of course, each country has its own traditions and customs associated with this good holiday. For example, Estonians hang flags on this day, and in Finland, people lay flowers at the monument “Mother Workers”. It is customary for Americans to decorate clothes with carnations. Those whose mothers are no longer alive attach white flowers to their breasts.
In Russia, Mother's Day received official status in 1998 with the light hand of Boris Yeltsin. But although this holiday in the post-Soviet space is still quite young, events in honor of Mother's Day are held regularly and everywhere. These are various festivals, concerts, competitions, exhibitions dedicated to mothers. On this day, the TV program includes films on the subject, social networks are full of virtual congratulations.
How to organize events dedicated to Mother's Day in the library?
Children's institutions and libraries cannot remain aloof from the festive turmoil. You can creatively prepare for Mother's Day: an event in the library is not bad for this option. And for both adult and children's audiences. Differences, of course, will be. First of all, in the repertoire and in the design of the room. But in any case, photo and video materials, visual literary sources are used. If an event is planned for Mother's Day in the library, the script should not go without poems, songs about mothers and fun contests.
The lyrical atmosphere will make the participants of the thematic evening think for a while and will awaken their memories.
Script options
The description of the event in the library for Mother's Day should start with the used visibility. Depending on the time of the year, the room is decorated either with autumn leaves or spring flowers, on which the sayings of great people about mothers can be written. It’s nice to arrange a stand with children's works called “My Mommy” or “Cute Mommy's Portrait”. This always leaves a good impression, since parents are flattered to admire the works of their own children. The library room has the ability to view slides and videos. If there is no large TV, then a sliding screen is suitable, on which you can demonstrate the required material. For example, organizing a holiday with viewing the family archive of each student (photo from the hospital, kindergarten, playground, birthday) will be a great idea for young and middle-aged children. The main thing is that the film was attended by mothers.
You can also use a
multimedia projector as an aid
.The following is a brief plan drawn up in order to hold an event on Mother's Day in the library. A script usually contains several items:
- Entry is best done to the extent common, according to the age of the audience. As a rule, it includes lyrical notes in the form of a thematic song (for adults “Talk to me, mother!”, For kids - “Song of the Little Mammoth”) or a poem. For this purpose, you can use technical devices (TV screen, projector, slides). The purpose of the introduction is to set the audience in a lyrical manner. Be sure to mention the history of this beautiful holiday and the traditions that accompany it in different countries. One or two presenters can conduct a festive matinee or a theme evening. Children are gradually connected to the action in accordance with the scenario.
- The organizers are not able to do without poetic content at events of this kind. In the library with the collection of material problems, of course, will not arise. For example, for a more adult audience, a poem by Sergei Ostrovsky, “A Woman with a Child,” or by Victor Gin, “Don't Offend Mothers,” will be an excellent gift. A very touching and piercing poem by Alla Tokombaeva, “Mother was ill,” after reading it, involuntary tears always appear in the eyes of the audience. For children, it is recommended that Agnia Barto’s poem “Mama” be included in the holiday program. Also, the performance of the children, timed to the holiday of all mothers, will be very appropriate. These can be poems that children read by heart, or songs, in turn.
- In order for the holiday to be fun and to be remembered for a long time, in the events dedicated to Mother's Day, it is imperative to include entertaining moments in the library. For example, it’s good to organize a contest “My beloved”. Its essence is that each mother selects affectionate nicknames for her child. Funny contest “What's on a silver platter?” make mom guess the names of blindfold cereals. There are many interesting additions to the holiday, so the story about them is better to highlight in a separate chapter.
- In order for the Mother’s Day event to be held in the library as intended, it is necessary to carefully consider the script. It can include humorous scenes. For example, to play a mini-play called “Parents' Help Day”. It involves a mother and son, who suddenly began to diligently perform household duties, which surprised his mother very much. The parent begins to ask him questions, the last of which: “Admit, why am I being called to school?” - and completely refuses to believe in the absence of a dirty trick. In the end, it turns out that the son became an assistant for just one day. And then everything will be the same. After this, the mother faints. If the play is masterfully played, it invariably causes audience laughter.
- Finishing the holiday is better with a beautiful poem, warm words and, possibly, gifts. It is good if children make presentations for mothers on their own.
The library room is different from large halls and suggests a certain chamber. This helps to create a more trusting, homely atmosphere, which is consistent with the theme of the holiday. Therefore, by Mother's Day, an event in the library would be most welcome.
Games and contests
It is impossible to hold an event on Mother's Day in the children's library without games and competitions. It is not possible for children to listen to how adults scatter in fiery speeches. Therefore, the script needs to be written in such a way that small viewers have the opportunity to congratulate their mothers and play games. The following is a list of possible entertaining moments that it is desirable to include in the script for Mother's Day.
The event in the library should be carried out, taking care of the rational arrangement of furniture: conditionally protect the stage from the auditorium.
- Competition "Moms and kids." Two teams participate in it: adults and children. They perform various tasks, and the jury selects a leader (friendship will certainly win). A prerequisite for the competition is the presentation of your own team and culinary homework - a meal of your choice.
- Blitz survey. It can be carried out in two versions. The meaning of the questions will differ. One option is comic questions: “Who plunges into work with the head?” (answer: diver), the second - in school subjects or the academic regime: “How many desks?”, “What are the directors?”, “Where is Madagascar?” and the like.
- The game "Pantomime". The essence of the action is that you need to show a simple instruction without the help of words - with gestures. In the same way, one can depict the beginning of a famous nursery rhyme so that the audience can guess what they are talking about.
- Often hold a very funny contest called "Dance". It is necessary to dance, for example, “Lambada” to completely inappropriate music and never get lost.
Take care of your mothers!
No matter where the Mother's Day celebration is held: an event in the library, a large theater hall or in a kindergarten, the main thing is to remind once again of a woman who is so familiar, but so necessary in the life of every person, to her mother.
