You can make a wide variety of pillowcases. But the preparatory stage for tailoring is the same:

  1. Decide on the pillows on which you will sew pillowcases. Decorative rollers can have any shape and appearance: classic squares, rectangles, hearts and so on. Choose which pillows you will sew for. Also pillowcases can be filled with a simple synthetic winterizer.
  2. Take measurements of the pillow for which the pillowcase will be sewn. This requires width and length. If the pillow is of a non-standard shape, simply attach it to a sheet of paper and draw a circle around it.
  3. Choose a pillowcase design. Decorative elements need to be thought out precisely at this stage, since you need to stock up on material.
  4. Decide how your pillowcase will be fastened. It can be lightning, buttons, Velcro.
  5. Prepare all the necessary tools and materials. The specific list depends on what you will sew. But without fail you will need: scissors, threads and a needle or a sewing machine, fabric, fasteners, decor elements.

DIY pillowcases

Perhaps this is one of the most budgetary ways to create a decorative pillowcase. After all, various shreds of fabric will go into play, which were previously a pity to throw away. The only thing you have to spend on a large piece of material for the pillowcase itself.

We offer a master class in sewing pillowcases with patchwork decor:

  1. Prepare two large pieces of fabric for the pillowcase. This will be the front and back.
  2. Take some colored shreds of fabric. It is desirable that they be interconnected by the structure of the fabric or in some one color.
  3. Cut out the shape of a piece of paper - an oval with pointed ends.
  4. When applying a leaflet pattern to the shreds, cut out several fabric blanks. They can be made different in size.
  5. Cut a tree trunk from a shred of dark color (brown or black).
  6. Lay in front of you a piece of fabric for the front side and lay on it the blanks of the trunk and leaves.
  7. Secure the final version with tailor pins.
  8. Now we need to sew all the elements. This is most conveniently done on a sewing machine, then the seam will turn out uniform and less time will be required for work. If there is no typewriter, you can do everything manually. Work carefully.
  9. When you sew all the elements, remove all the protruding threads.
  10. Stitch the zipper to the finished side.
  11. Stitch the other half of the zipper to the back.
  12. Fold together the front and back of the pillowcase with the wrong side down and sew them together.
  13. Turn the pillowcases on the front side.

Decorative pillowcases are ready! By the same principle, you can make many different applications.

Pillowcase in ruffles

how to sew a decorative pillowcase

Below is an instruction on how to sew a decorative pillowcase with ruffles:

  1. Prepare all materials and tools.
  2. Take the pillowcase fabric and cut it into two parts: front and back.
  3. Take a piece of fabric, the length of which is more than one and a half times the length of the future pillowcase.
  4. Cut this fabric into strips of equal thickness. Their number depends on the size of the pillow and your preference.
  5. Sew each strip on the sewing machine, after setting the longest pitch of the stitch. You can also do this manually. The stitch should go in the middle of the strip, and the ends of the thread do not need to be tied.
  6. Attach one strip to the front of the pillowcase and secure its edge with a pin.
  7. Pull the thread on the other side of the strip so that the fabric is gathered and an accordion is obtained.
  8. Fasten the other edge of the strip to the front.
  9. Spread the ruffles and fasten a strip of length several more times.

  11. Attach the reverse to the front so that the ruffles remain inside.
  12. Stitch both parts of the pillowcase together, leaving a small hole.
