Not all breeds of dogs are equally known around the world. Some are popular in a certain area. One of these breeds is the Hungarian Pointing Dog. It was the Hungarians who first once noticed the aristocratic features of dogs and gradually brought the look to a modern look. Natural born hunters have an excellent scent and are perfectly trained.
General characteristics
Hungarian Short-haired Pointing Dog is a hound breed that requires daily physical activity for at least an hour. Dogs like walking, sports, water and jogging. Busy people should not start such a dog, because he suffers from loneliness. Due to boredom, destructive behavior is possible.
The Wire-haired Hungarian Pointing Dog needs to be combed regularly. One of the main advantages of the breed is the absence of dog smell. These dogs feel good in a private house, which has a large yard. However, dogs are recommended to stay in the house, they can not be kept in a booth on the street. Their hair is not able to protect from the cold, and besides, the animal needs communication in the family.
Dogs are very fond of communication and everywhere follow their master. They play well with children and get along well with cats and other dogs. But with small rodents you need to be on your guard. Buying a Hungarian Pointing Dog is necessary only in good nurseries. The cost of a puppy starts from 30 thousand rubles and can reach 50 thousand. It is not worth saving in this case, since the dog must have a pedigree.
Story
Hungarian Pointing Dog is a breed with a history of at least 1000 years. She appeared in the Carpathians along with the Magyars, or Hungarians. Very often it is called Vyzhla, which is translated from Hungarian as "find" or "search."
The first information about the Hungarian Pointing Dog (survived) is found on stones. In the paintings of the falconry of the leaders, such dogs were certainly present. It was not easy for the Magyar tribes in Europe to survive. It was possible to get meat only on falconry. And dogs could find prey by smell, showing its location to hunters. People launched a falcon, which killed the prey and delivered it. This method of hunting existed before the appearance of firearms.
The Magyars probably crossed their dogs with native breeds. There is no exact evidence for this, but outwardly squeezed it is similar to other breeds of Central Europe. A noticeable similarity, for example, is with the Transylvanian hound. The Hungarian Pointing Dog was first mentioned in 1350. In the Viennese chronicles (1342-1382), which describe the life of the Magyars, one of the chapters deals with falconry, there is also an image of dogs. The breed is mentioned up to the Turkish occupation (1526). Together with the Turks, a golden pointer also fell on the Magyar lands. It is likely that he was crossed with a vyzhla, due to which the breed received its original color. In ancient descriptions that have survived to this day, almost always we are talking about the hunting skill of the breed and color. In the end, only representatives of the nobility could breed.
The fate of the breed
Unlike other dogs in those days, the Hungarian Pointing Dog was very much appreciated and even allowed to sleep in the house. Its main purpose was to hunt birds, but coped and survived with the search for hares, and could even find a bear.
In the seventeenth century, German and English hunting breeds appeared in Hungary, so the demand for the Hungarian Short-haired Pointing Dog significantly decreased. By the end of the century, the number of purebred dogs was becoming very small, and the breeders had to start restoring the breed. With a high probability, it can be argued that the cross was crossed with English and German pointers, and, possibly, even with the Irish setter.
World War I led to a significant reduction in the population. But the breeders managed to work here. In 1920, docked tails came into fashion to reduce the likelihood of injuries during hunting. And in 1930, several breeders came up with the idea to breed dogs that would be more suitable for hunting in shrubs, in humid climates. Therefore, the cross was crossed with the drathaar, as a result of which there was a wire-haired cross, which is a separate breed.
During World War II, Hungarian lands were occupied by German troops. In the course of hostilities, indigenous breeds almost disappeared. And the reason for this was the bombing and famine. The breed survived only thanks to emigrants who took dogs when leaving with them and transported them to those countries where such a species was generally unknown. With American soldiers, the puppies came to the United States, where the breed became incredibly popular, which led to the restoration of numbers.
Cynological organizations of those times demanded that at least three generations pass for the recognition of the breed. Thus, most of the Hungarian short-haired cops have pedigree books from 1945-1950, although the breed has had its history for more than a thousand years, and purebred dogs have existed for more than 500 years.
In 1960, at least 500 dogs born in America were officially registered. Since the dogs arrived in the United States, they have gained the fame of universal hunting animals. Hungarian Pointing Dog (photo is in the article) can hunt any game in any conditions. Incredibly smart and good-natured dogs found the love of breeders much faster than other breeds. Scaffolds work great and are incredibly beautiful. Gradually, the breed becomes very popular in different countries. By 2010, in the number of dogs registered in the AKC, it took 41 place among 167 species.

Dog Features
The Hungarian Short-haired Pointing Dog (survived) is not a dog for every family, as it is very demanding on the active rhythm of life:
- She needs much more physical activity than other breeds. In this regard, Vyzhla competes with terriers, shepherd dogs and greyhounds.
- The dog should run and jump for less than an hour a day.
- Due to lack of physical activity, dogs have many behavioral problems. Dogs are tireless and can work for hours.
For active people, such animals are simply perfect. With a four-legged friend, you can ski, walk or ride a bike. The dog perceives any undertaking with joy. If you are not able to devote to a dog up to 10-15 hours a week, then you should choose another breed.
The behavior of the Hungarian gundog on the street is incredible friendliness and the desire to frolic. But it is worth remembering that dogs are afraid of a thunderstorm. Moreover, the animal is so afraid that it can affect his psyche. Correcting such emotionality is very difficult. Therefore, experts recommend at the first sign to prevent it.
Dog food
Vyzhly has no special requirements for catering. The main condition for feeding the Hungarian gundog is the presence of all nutrients and low calorie content and fat content. The basis of nutrition should be lean meat, cereals and vegetables. Sour-milk products and cottage cheese should be present in the diet. Eggs can be given several times a week. But vegetable oil must be added to food daily (tablespoon per day).
Dogs are not recommended to give flour and sweet, smoked, fried, potatoes, food with spices. Minerals and vitamins for dogs should be added to natural nutrition.
It is preferable to opt for natural nutrition. However, many breeders use dry mixes. In this case, you should opt for premium feed. Only high-quality compounds can give everything necessary for the full development of the body and not harm it.
Pet care
For the dog you need to organize your own place. It should be positioned so that people can always be in the field of view of the animal. As for wool, it requires special care. There is no need to comb it out even during molting. It is enough to brush slightly once a week. You can bathe the dog once a month. The dog constantly licks itself and does not have the characteristic smell of a dog, so it’s quite enough for rare water procedures. Between rare baths, the animal’s hair can be wiped with a towel dampened in lotion. A pet needs to brush his teeth every week. For this process, use a special brush and paste. Once a month, it is also necessary to trim the claws.
Training
Training and training representatives of the breed is an interesting and fascinating process for the owner and the pet itself. Scaffolds are very easy to train. They are incredibly sensitive natures, therefore they actively respond to encouragement and affection. In work, animals are tuned to any contact, because they always strive to please the owners. In the process of lessons, a person needs to show a firm character and perseverance, and not rigor and rudeness. Smart and smart dogs in the family will certainly try to take a dominant position. Vyzhly with a lack of attention and physical activity can develop bad habits in behavior. Therefore, the dog should live in the house with a person and regularly communicate with him.
Puppy acquisition
To purchase a pet must be approached with all responsibility. If you plan to hunt, then the puppy should be taken from parents who have experience in this matter. Do not be afraid to get a little grown up baby, in this case the specialist will be able to more accurately determine his hunting abilities.
If you plan to participate in exhibitions, then you need to pay attention to the puppies of the show level who have the necessary standards. Buying a dog from ordinary people is a risky undertaking. A grown up baby may well turn out not to be vysl, but, for example, a mestizo. Even if the breed matches, no one guarantees you the health of the animal.
Hungarian Pointing Dog - quite an expensive dog. Therefore, do not save. You can buy a good dog in the kennel. Puppies with minor flaws are cheaper, but for upscale pets sometimes asking up to 70-100 thousand rubles. And such a price is justified. But you will definitely become the owner of a purebred dog.
Vaccinations
Puppies must be vaccinated against such ailments: plague, infectious hepatitis, parvovirus enteritis, parainfluenza, trichophytosis, coronovirus, leptospirosis.
The first vaccination of the puppy must be carried out in two months. After vaccination, the baby should not be washed, taken out and overfed. After injection, immunity is developed within 12 days. It is this period that becomes the most dangerous for the baby. Owners need to help as much as possible to alleviate the condition of their pet. The first vaccine very often occurs with fever, diarrhea and general weakness. Three weeks later, the injection is repeated using the same vaccine. Usually the second vaccination is much easier. And yet the next 12 days, the dog must be carefully guarded. Further walks are allowed.
At the age of six months, pets are vaccinated against several diseases at once, including rabies. Do not vaccinate the animal during the change of teeth. It is necessary to wait for a complete replacement of the dentition, and then vaccinate. In a year, dogs are given a comprehensive vaccination, which is then repeated annually.
Disease
Hungarian point dogs are strong and hardy dogs, provided they are well fed and fully loaded. The average life expectancy is 14-15 years. Dogs are not prone to allergies or colds. This is a rarity for shorthair representatives. And yet there are a number of diseases that can occur in a dog: hormonal disruptions, thyroid pathology, atrophy and cataract of the retina, dysplasia, epilepsy.
During walks in the rain and in frost, dogs must be dressed in overalls. This will facilitate the care of the hair and will not allow the animal to freeze, do not forget about its short hair. Regularly, the skin of the pet must be treated with products from fleas, ticks and other parasites. These insects pose a great threat to your friend.
Fleas with their bites cause irritation on the skin, which makes the animal begin to itch. By swallowing such an insect, the dog can get worms. That is why parasites are considered the main carriers of numerous infections.
Ticks are dangerous because they tolerate pyroplasmosis. After walking, always check your friend’s skin. If you find a tick, unscrew it with tweezers. This method is the most painless. The site of the bite after removing the insect must be carefully examined to make sure there are no residues. The wound must be treated with an antiseptic. The dog must be observed for several days. If the pet is active, eats well and runs cheerfully, then the tick, most likely, was not contagious. Otherwise, contact your veterinarian.
