Skeleton Watches - A True Work of Art

Skeleton watches are, undoubtedly, a revolution in the design of men's and women's watches. Such watches have transparent dials.

What does it give? This allows you to see the work of the entire clockwork and each of its parts separately. But such watches may differ in how bare their mechanisms are. Some skeleton watches have only a back cover, which is visible.

Through their glass you can see how the pendulum functions, gears rotate. They can be self-winding and without it. A watch with an open pendulum is not a real skeleton.

Skeleton watches only use the best parts. Watchmakers often engrave filigree details manually, and sometimes even decorate them with gems. Skeleton watches have the most complex mechanisms, which in themselves are real masterpieces. However, put on public display, they become a very expensive work of art. The material and aesthetic value of such a mechanism under a transparent dial increases several times.

Skeleton watches can have stylistic design features, which makes them truly unique. It is not surprising that at the moment such watches are the most fashionable and sought-after accessories.

Women's skeleton watches are even more elegant than men's. The smallest such female skeletons were released by Armin Storm at the end of the twentieth century. This earned him his name in the Guinness Book of Records, although the main work of his hands was men's skeleton watches.

Initially, this master was engaged in the restoration of ancient models of watches. He quickly became famous thanks to the ability to “reanimate” mechanisms and to make parts for them with his own hands. With this watchmaking, the master has earned a reliable reputation. In the eighties of the last century, he created his own pocket watch, which was instantly bought by one of his regular customers.

Subsequently, Armin Storm made watches either in small series or in general only in a single copy.

How are skeleton watches manufactured?

This is really a very complex and delicate work, requiring outstanding watchmaker skill and utmost attention. First, the clock mechanism is completely disassembled, and then the bridges and platinum are removed, after which precious sapphire plates are installed instead. This is done in order to make the work more spectacular. To make the watch last longer, some wheels and gears, whose movement pattern is similar to an openwork cloth, are made of silver or gold, and the remaining parts are covered with platinum. After such processing, the clockwork is again subject to assembly.

Such work is really only for a professional. Since after all these actions the thickness of the axles decreases significantly, it is necessary to apply a lot of effort to maintain the quality of the wheel drive and the accuracy of the ride.

The process of creating such a watch is very time-consuming and time-consuming, because all parts must be cut perfectly and trimmed just as perfectly. Details should look impeccable, as the mechanism of this watch is completely and completely naked.
