The question of passing Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was asked by many "children of zero" after the official release. The project was a frequent guest at computer clubs, where almost every second visitor tried to survive in a virtual zombie apocalypse. This masterpiece will be discussed in the article.
About the game
A feature of the project is the presence of only one main character - Jill Valentine. For another character, Carlos Oliveira, only a small episode is reserved. In the first and second parts there were two game campaigns, which implied the passage of one character and a small episode after another.
Another novelty of the game Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is the one-eyed monster that haunts Jill throughout the story and is the story and final boss at the same time.
There were opportunities to create ammunition by experimenting with improvised means and mixing the available components. For example, using gunpowder and a tool for cartridges, you can create ammunition with various effects: cartridges with acid, freezing and burning. In a similar way potions healing wounds are enhanced.
In the English and Russian versions of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis there are moments where you have to make a difficult choice. Such action points are indicated by coloring the frame in negative tones and a message on the screen about the need to make a choice. The decision affects the further development of the plot. Inaction of a player is equated to one of the indicated options or to death.
Passing Resident Evil 3: Nemesis involves solving puzzles. Some are overcome by applying elementary knowledge of mathematics, but there are also implying the presence of the ability to reproduce the melody heard. Skillful course of developers - quests with multiple solutions. With each new passage, the problem is solved in a different way, this allows you to maintain the interest of the gamer in the project.
At the end of the passage of the game Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Jill Valentine will receive new costumes. On the difficulty “easy” two options are available. The rating is an indicator of the number of suits. This refers to Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (rus) on PS1. The version for the Windows platform contains already unlocked suits.
The first walkthrough opens a mini-game - The Mercenaries mode, where the characters Mikhail, Carlos and Nikolai are available. The goal is to get to the final location and clear the hero in the allotted time. The release of the hostages, visiting secret locations, destroying opponents and evading attacks give additional units of time.
This mode allows you not only to spend time completing interesting quests outside the main storyline, but also to earn money to avoid enemy attacks. One of the methods will be described below.
Plot and characters
At the heart of the story is an attempt by Jill Valentine from the STARS police squad to get out of Raccoon City, in which life became impossible due to the outbreak of the T-virus. The first part shows the events before Resident Evil 2, the second - after.
Having woken up in the city filled with the walking dead, Jill goes to the place of his former work - to the police station. There, he stumbles upon a colleague of Bred Vickers (also from STARS) and meets the main antagonist of RE 3: the bio-engineering product of Umbrella Corporation (under the Tiran project) named Nemesis.
A monster from a cover with a sewn-in eye and hypertrophied venous tentacles tears a colleague into pieces. This is how the first meeting with the monster takes place, in whose program the hunt for STARS agents is by any means.
Later, the heroine meets a unit for countering bacteriological weapons (UBCS), it includes Mikhail, Nikolai and Carlos. In the new company, she manages to leave the area of greatest danger. On the way, the tram crashes, Mikhail sacrificed his life for the salvation of his brothers in arms. He had to explode with a grenade to stop the mutant Nemesis. Nicholas disappeared, and Carlos and Jill had to split up.
The girl goes to the evacuation point - the chapel, where you want to ring the bells to call the helicopter. In the process of passing Resident Evil 3, Nemesis himself shows himself to be a dangerous adversary who can not only run faster than the character, but also handle weapons: he knocks down a helicopter caused by a shot from a grenade launcher.
In addition, the monster uses its deadly trick: it infects Jill with the virus through the tentacles. Carlos has to help the girl. To find the antidote, he goes to the hospital, where he meets Nikolai. The latter in fact turns out to be a secret agent of Umbrella and collects information about the ability of individual fighters to resist the infection.
Carlos manages to get the vaccine, but the medical facility explodes due to the actions of another UBCS employee Tyrel Patrick. Nicholas manages to escape, and Carlos Oliveira safely heals Jill, after which he talks about the traitor and gives a couple of useful tips. This ends the episode and returns the narrative narrative on behalf of Jill.
During the further passage of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (rus), the player will meet in the park the aforementioned traitor, in the armory of which Jill finds out about the corporation's plans. An attempt to eliminate the enemy will be interrupted by a forced battle with a giant grave worm.
A new meeting with Oliveira will happen at the Umbrella factory, where the character will indicate a clear need to get out of Raccoon City due to an approaching nuclear strike. The measure was chosen in connection with the failure of the authorities to suppress the spread of the T-virus.
The characters are split again to quickly find the right vehicle. Again Nikolay comes across on the way, who boasts that he has eliminated other Umbrella supervisors and will receive a big reward for the information collected. The fate of the future may be different:
- Nemesis will kill him;
- Nikolai will fly away by helicopter;
- will board a helicopter that will be shot down.
Only in one case does he survive. A nuclear strike alert is triggered; personnel have 15 minutes to evacuate. But on the way, Jill again appears the super mutant Nemesis, which, due to large damage, already uses tentacles as a whip, and then mutates into a huge creeping monster that can spit acid. It is possible to destroy it only with the help of a rail gun installed at the factory (and even then not the first time).
In the end, the girl has the opportunity to finish off a boring mutant with a final shot from a pistol or just leave him to die. If you don’t make a choice, then the worm can infect the heroine. The heroes manage to find a helicopter and fly away, and Raccoon City ceases to exist.
Control buttons
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was originally adapted to play on the joystick, because the owners of the Sony PlayStation have never experienced any problems. But the owners of personal computers have a hard time, because the standard gaming set of WSAD + Mouse buttons does not work.
The set of keys for the PC version should be set individually, based on ideas about ease of use. The standard set is as follows:
- M - open the map, skip the cut scene;
- X - aiming;
- V - running;
- Enter - shooting and interacting with objects;
- C - climb or climb off an obstacle;
- Z - inventory window;
- C - enter the door or exit.
Aiming and shooting buttons are used in pair to qualitatively eliminate the enemies that come across. The auto-sight especially helps to cope with creeping zombies, dexterous spiders and Dobermans.
Features
If we compare the first two parts with the third, then the management as a whole is improved:
- Now you can escape from the attack of enemies by using keyboard shortcuts.
- Removed the need to use the action button to interact with the stairs (with the exception of changing locations).
- A quick 180 ° turn through aiming became the hallmark of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.
- Passage with auto-sight is set in the default options.
- 8 cells of inventory can be increased to 10 (does not apply to Carlos).
- Now you can interact with surrounding objects to eliminate zombies: shots in barrels, explosives or electric shields to set fire to, detonate or immobilize with an electric discharge.
The mechanics of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis are different from the rest of the games in the series. It is clearly seen in the example of the one-eyed supermutant chasing the heroine. Any collision can lead to a replay, closed doors will not stop him, he may suddenly appear in a step from Jill, jump into the window on the second or third floor. Despite the harsh scripting of the scenes, it is the antagonist who creates the atmosphere of horror that was loved in the Resident Evil series.
The monster withstands 8–9 shots from a shotgun and falls, however, after a while it rises and again rushes to the attack. When you try again, it will fall and give the player a breath (he will not get up, but will appear in the game again). It has the following surprises:
- moves almost twice as fast as Jill;
- swipe with his hands;
- sometimes appears with a rocket launcher on his shoulder;
- grabs the girl by the throat and throws to the side;
- near the end of the game, uses tentacles as a whip, can do a sweep and knock down or throw it away;
- with a small amount of health, he uses finishing off - pumping the virus into Jill's skull with a tentacle.
Graphics on various platforms
The third part, Capcom completed a series of projects for the Sony PlayStation, subsequently the project was ported to other gaming platforms.
- In 2000, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was released on PC with improved 3D models and high screen resolution. However, the project did not reach FullHD. Many complained about the poor quality of the video, the appearance of "artifacts" and spots in the image. Not satisfied with the fans and dark backgrounds with poorly selected fonts. A number of Russian versions appeared on the domestic market with translations from various studios. The most famous translations are Resident Evil 3: Nemesis from Akella and 7Volk Studio.
- In the same year, a version adapted for Sega Dreamcast was released in the winter. The features of the version are carefully designed models, improved backgrounds, and the memory card display was highlighted by Jill Valentine's health indicator.
- In 2003, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was released for the GameCube, which visually was no different from the Sony PlayStation. Only the frame rate of 60 frames in the videos changed, and the character models were slightly reworked. The project received poor grades, as it did not justify the cost even by half.
Built-in Secrets
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis has secrets that may seem like a random coincidence to gamers and can be ignored if there is no proper clue. But with a detailed introduction, the passage of the plot becomes more interesting:
- each new passage of the game opens 1 of 8 chapters of a story dedicated to one of the characters;
- there are many references to other Capcom projects in the game: a poster by Dino Crisis at Raccoon City Hospital or Biohazard (under this name RE came out in Japan);
- after the first passage, Jill receives the key to the clothing store, you can go there to change the appearance (in the PC version, all clothes are available immediately, and the boutique is always closed);
- if at each meeting with Nemesis to finish off the monster, Jill will receive improvements for the weapon.
Cheat codes for various platforms
Not a single visitor to the computer clubs of the beginning of the two thousandths amused themselves using the codes for Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. PS1, which replaced SEGA, were in almost every club. The use of codes was due not only to the desire to spend time with comfort, but also to save money, because you had to pay for each game hour.
Nowadays, when there is a PC version and trainers for Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, you don’t have to think about hourly pay. But owners of Sony PlayStation and fans of emulators periodically use teams.

Little financial trick
On the PS1 platform, there is a life hack for stuffing money in The Mercenaries mode. In the location with heaps of garbage you need to find a box with bottles behind the bar. You need to climb the stairs, turn right and move north to the fork.
You should stop at the dead end of the alley with red and white plates. Here, the player will be attacked by three Dobermans: two should be immediately killed, and one lured to a pile of plates, which will serve as a salvation from the pursuer.
The dog will not be able to jump, but will try, this should be used to mine the cherished bills. The character should come closer and press the joystick R1 to bounce back. A dodge will be counted, with a repeat - a combo.
The process is long, tedious, but safe and contributes to the accumulation of the necessary amount of funds for the comfortable passage of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.
Quests and puzzles
Secrets of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is far from the only aspect of the project that attracts attention. What are the puzzles. Some of them are extremely simple and are solved by random selection of values, some contain hints and to solve them you need to find an object located in a distant location, but there are those that require musical hearing or quick wit.
The easiest puzzle is considered to be the gas station: turn off the LEDs one at a time, leaving only the light bulb above the illuminated letter working. After hacking, a cabinet with a canister opens.
Another example is voltage regulation at power plants. Everything is simple:
- three times to choose red, once - blue for a high-voltage door (20 volts);
- once - red, three times - blue for a door with a low voltage (120 volts).
Actions with caskets in the tower of the chapel imply the presence of musical ear, the ability to remember and play the melody. There are two levers on the instrument: with the up button U and down D. The solution is duddud or uduudu.
An interesting quest with the goddess of time, where three hours hang, with pictures of the present, future and past. It is necessary to insert amber into a watch with a past, obsidian into a watch with a present and a crystal into a mechanism with a future. If everything is done correctly, the chronometer in the center will show 12 hours, it will open, after which Jill will find a golden polyhedron.
Difficulties arise with the Water Sample quest in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. The passage is simple, if you see the pattern. It is enough to restore the water sample using rotation ranges. At the very top line is the sample to which the graphic range of values corresponds.
Below are the three lines A, B, and C, which are the "field for experimentation." From the sequence of values of these ranges, you need to add the result (last line) corresponding to the original sample. Something vaguely reminiscent of the Tetris. If the cubes are correctly placed (screenshot below), the puzzle will be solved.
If you can’t complete the quest, it is better to start the game from the last save point and choose a different path: if you jump from the bridge when meeting with Nemesis, Jill will get to the water samples. Faced with the enemy’s bridge, it will pass to the power panels, where the flow of hot steam blocks the path (it will be necessary to redirect its flows sequentially). However, such a decision will affect the ending.
Conclusion
Passing Resident Evil 3: Nemesis for a long time deprived of sleep and violated the diet of many fans of the genre at the beginning of the two thousandth. For its time, the project is very significant and promising. Even though repeated passes take only 2-3 hours, the first one takes 7 hours or more.
For "children of zero" this is an indescribable game experience that helps to plunge into the atmosphere of danger, startle when a zombie suddenly appears from behind a corner, window or sewer hatch.
This is an indispensable research experience in combining ingredients (a reference to the RPG genre) for ammunition. Positive feedback contributed to the project’s sales growth. The numerous comments left by users of thematic sites are the opinions of gamers who determine the criteria for selecting a quality product.
For most fans of the genre, Resident Evil 3 is the benchmark. When asked about the "Resident Evil", the image of the super-mutant "Tirana" with a sewn eye - Nemesis arises in my head. It is the third part that has become for many the starting point in the universe of Resident Evil.
All the most recognizable aspects of the genre are concentrated precisely in it: different viewing angles of the camera, auto-guidance system, key combinations, soundtrack. If you compare other projects, you can see a departure from the traditions of the genre. Resident Evil 4 is still consistent, but the 5th and 6th parts of the franchise have already outgrown a third-person shooter and there are no traditional horror elements in them.
The passage of the third part is remarkable in that the events do not occur in a confined space like a mansion or bunker, but cover the whole city. Danger lurks around every corner. The enemy appears from under the car, the window, jumps out from behind the bar, pounces out of the shadows or stays in the sewers (as is the case with the grave-digger worm).
The player has to constantly decide which is more important: cartridges or medicines. To make decisions like shoot back from the walking dead or quickly run between them and close the doors behind them.
The idea of the franchise was inspired by Paul Anderson, making a film of the same name, which was continued. Unlike the game, the movie did not get such success. According to reviews, “Resident Evil 2: Apocalypse” (the super mutant Nemesis appeared in the second part) received more negative assessments than the first part.
And this despite the huge number of references to the games, which still cause delight among fans. For example, the Raccoon City explosion was almost completely copied from the ending of RE 3: Nemesis. The scenes of the death of Umbrella soldiers from the crowds of the dead are borrowed from the same project. The appearance of "Nemesis" in the film could not but cause joy. The same should be said about the direct sending in the form of Jill Valentine, who in the movie dresses, moves and holds weapons, as in the game. Many points borrowed from the first part of the game and from RE: Code Veronika. However, not everything is sweet and smooth.
The picture is of particular interest to the target audience, however, a number of film critics adhere to a negative assessment. For example, Walter Chow of Film Freak Central spoke of P. Anderson’s creation as a terrible sequel to a terrible movie.
The well-known film portal Rotten Tomatos, specializing in aggregating reviews from highly qualified film critics, put the picture at only 20% rating, which is equivalent to throwing the creators with rotten tomatoes (it is not for nothing that the site has such a name).
Further continuations of the movie should not be mentioned at all. If the first two parts were to some extent high-quality, then it is better to remain silent about the rest. The farther, the more reminiscent of frank mockery of Mila Jovovich, who was trying by all means to pull the creation to the desired level. Neither Albert Wesker, nor the giant zombie executioner, nor the many clones of the main character saved the situation.
Some sort of logical conclusion in terms of films occurred in Resident Evil: The Last Chapter, but the rating on Rotten Tomatos did not rise above 35%. Fans criticized the release for the abundance of inaccuracies, understatement, plot disagreements with the previous parts, as well as for assigning important characters to secondary roles. In May 2017, intentions to restart the entire franchise were announced. It is hoped that this will be a more thoughtful, high-quality and painstaking work, which you will want to return to over and over again, like a computer game Resident Evil 3: Nemesis or third-person shooters like the fifth and sixth parts.
However, one should not begin acquaintance with the universe with unsuccessful films. Game projects live their own lives, are surrounded by armies of fans who express addictions through creativity, cosplay and more. In August 2018, Capcom announced the re-release of Resident Evil 2, setting a release date for January 2019.
Fans took the news with enthusiasm and express their hope for a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis on PC. It is hoped that with the re-release of the acclaimed horror, the project will receive a rebirth, will acquire interesting DLC, new plot twists and more thoughtful gameplay.
Office 2000 model, of course, has become a classic, but many expect a deeper adaptation for PC: WSAD + Mouse. There is no talk of graphics. From the height of 2018, this component of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis seems wretched, because processing for new realities is simply vital. It remains only to wish good luck and patience to the developers and fans.
