You can talk for a long time about how ambiguous the first RPG from the CDPR studio turned out, but in this article we will talk about history. The narrative in the game is divided into logical chapters, so we will talk about the plot in this order.
Prologue
The initial part of the game takes place in the fortress of Kaer Morhan - the refuge of the witches. They find the main character, Geralt, near the castle unconscious. The Witchers bring their comrade and bring him to life. After some time, unknown bandits with the sign of a salamander led by a Professor and some kind of magician attack the fortress. They steal the tools and recipes of the Witchers, and then teleport. During the battle, one of Wesemir's disciples dies. The plot of the game "The Witcher 1"; tied up after Leo’s funeral, when the heroes disperse around the world to find those who attacked Kaer Morhan and get even. Geralt goes to the vicinity of the city of Vizima, which, as it turned out, is quarantined due to the plague.
Chapter I. Professor
In the first chapter, the game introduces you to the villagers and the mysterious boy Alvin. The action begins with the fact that the witcher leaves the local tavern and almost immediately stumbles upon the trail of an unknown beast that attacks the inhabitants.
In the course of the investigation, Geralt comes to the Rev., who refuses to cooperate until the witcher proves his loyalty to him. To do this, you need to help three important people in the vicinity of Vizima - Odo, Mikula and Haren.
The player follows the plot of The Witcher 1; gets acquainted with the mentioned characters and performs their personal tasks. And also in this chapter the witcher meets an old friend, the red-skinned Zoltan. The player will still meet with him along the way. In the investigation of the case, the main character is helped by the nurse Shani.
At the end of the chapter, Geralt takes refuge in the Salamander and the Professor, but he again manages to slip away. At this time, local residents are going to execute the herbalist, and you must decide whether to stand up for her or leave everything as it is. The plot of "The Witcher 1" this will affect slightly. In addition, at the end of the first chapter, all the villagers will die at the hands of the witcher, the beast will be defeated, and you will have a pass to the city of Wizima.
Chapter II Jail break
When trying to get through the city gates, the hero is arrested and sent to a local prison. Geralt is offered a bargain - the killing of a cocatrix from the sewer in exchange for release. In the sewers, he meets Siegfried, who advises the hero to go to Raymond Marlow to help in the investigation.
After the prepayment, the lawyer promises to help Geralt and get more information about the Salamander. Raymond leads the witcher to several suspects, and the player will have to interrogate and complete a number of additional quests. In the course of the investigation, it turns out that the real detective is long dead - his body is in the cemetery. Geralt decides to play along with someone who has taken the form of Raymond, and goes with him to the swamps to the tower. There, the detective takes on a true appearance - it turns out to be Azar Yavad, the main villain. Our witcher does not cope in battle, but he is teleported to a safe place.
Chapter III. Meeting with Triss
The passage of the plot of The Witcher 1 in the third chapter begins with the house of Triss Merigold - a sorceress, Geralt's old friend, with whom they had a romantic relationship.
In the process, the witcher gets to a social reception, where he talks with Princess Adda and her adjutant. There, the hero communicates with Leuwaarden, who promises to help Geralt in the fight against the Salamanders.
When the heroes find out the location of the base of Salamander, the choice arises: enlist the support of the elves in the person of Yaevinn or seek help from Siegfried and the Order of the Burning Rose. From the player’s choice, the plot of The Witcher 1 will change only in those moments that relate to one of the parties.
When Geralt enters the Salamander refuge, he encounters the Professor and Hazard. The first dies from the sword, and the second manages to escape. After leaving the shelter, the witcher is met by the royal guard, and at this moment Triss manages to teleport him to the Darkwater.
Chapter IV Elves
This chapter has a more measured history. Geralt gets acquainted with the village where the wedding of two young people is planned. During the passage, our character recognizes all the ins and outs of the inhabitants, and at the end of the adventures in the Darkwater fall the units of the Order of the Burning Rose, which are going to destroy the local elf camp. Geralt can help them with this or stand up for scoy'tael. After resolving issues, the hero goes to Vizima by boat.
Chapter V. Vzima
Here comes the denouement of the plot of The Witcher 1. The war between the Order and the Elves engulfed the harvest. The witcher goes at the request of King Foltest to the cemetery to conjure his daughter Addu for the second time. You can really save her or kill her. On the way to the crypt, the hero meets the head of the Order, who turns out to be the commander of the Salamander. After that, you need to go to the Yaveda laboratory, destroy a number of mutants and deal with the villain himself.
Epilogue
Returning to Vyzima, the witcher meets old acquaintances (which of them will die depends on the chosen side during the passage). Having approached the refuge of Jacob, the commander of the Salamander, the witcher fights with a rigger, after which the villain transfers the hero to another world to prove his case.
Geralt passes through the icy world, meeting his friends and acquaintances (dialogue depends on the relationship during the passage). In the end, the King of the Wild Hunt appears, who kills Jacob because he could not cope with his task. Geralt fights with the King and defeats him. A medallion is found on Jacob's body that is identical to what Alvin wears.
The main character returns to the king for the award. At this moment, an attempt is made on Foltest. It turns out that the killer was another witcher, but Geralt manages to kill him. This ends the plot.
Additional Stories in The Witcher 1
The game also has additional story campaigns: "Side effects", in which the witcher helps a friend of Buttercup get out of debt and troubles, and "Price of neutrality", where Geralt is involved in the conflict between the sorceress and her brother. The scene is the autumn Kaer Morhan.
