How to connect DVD to computer: instructions and difficulties

Before connecting the DVD player to the computer, you need to decide on a method that will prevent significant signal loss during transmission. It is also worth taking care of buying the necessary equipment, which is quite expensive. But for starters, it is important to consider several problems that may arise during or after work.

When making a connection, users quite often may encounter such errors:

  • Before you connect the DVD to the computer, you need to familiarize yourself with the available connectors. Users often try to use the already familiar USB port. However, it should be borne in mind that on DVD players it is intended only for installing firmware. As a result, USB connections will not work, since each of them will not be able to decide which one will be the main one.
  • Users are trying to use an additional connection method, while not purchasing additional equipment (it will be discussed later). As a result, there may be two outcomes. Or the connection will not happen. Or the devices will be malfunctioning.
  • If before connecting the DVD player to the computer, the user has not completed all the necessary settings, some conflict situations may arise. In particular, the player cannot be initialized. If you did this, then the player will cease to recognize the data and will be useless.

Now it’s worth moving on to considering the permissible and necessary equipment. To get started, check out the options for connecting cables.

Component

Also known as color difference. It contains three separate coaxial cables that allow you to transfer all the elements of the video signal. At its ends is an RCA. On the player itself, this cord is connected to the blue, green and red connectors. All in accordance with the colors of the cables themselves.

Provides a clearer, more stable and more accurate picture in terms of color reproduction.

RGB

Another adapter for connecting a DVD player to a computer. There are options with three or four coaxial cables, five (three for primary colors, fourth for vertical synchronization, fifth for horizontal). The most common type is the VGA adapter. This is the best way to connect a DVD player to a computer among those presented.

HDMI

HDMI cable

Provides digital video transmission. Able to work with the formats of any monitors that fall within the maximum bandwidth of the interface. Allows you to make additional settings that provide the highest quality image and sound. Among them:

  • aspect ratio;
  • encoding methods;
  • color space and many others.

It is worth noting that this option is the best among all presented.

Now it’s worth moving on to how to connect the DVD to the computer.

Necessary tools

Before proceeding with the procedure for connecting the player to a computer, you must make sure that you have all the necessary tools. You will need:

  • PATA-USB adapter.
  • Video capture card or TV tuner. Please note that this equipment is quite expensive, and therefore it is necessary to choose the best option possible so as not to make a pointless purchase.
  • Before you connect the DVD, which is included with the home theater, to your computer, it is important to make sure that there is a five-channel input on the motherboard of your computer. In the absence of such, it is worth stopping the implementation of this idea. Otherwise, along with the motherboard, you may need to replace many other components.

Required Settings

Before connecting the DVD to the computer, you must perform a number of additional steps that will allow you to make a successful connection:

  • Format the hard drive with the FAT-32 file system. Files necessary for viewing must be recorded on it. This is done so that the device is not perceived as a storage of information (flash drive).
  • Using the appropriate wires and connectors, connect the tuner and video capture card to each other.
  • Next, you need to connect the speaker system of the player and the audio card of the computer. To do this, a mini-jack is included in the first connector, and a tulip in the second. Make sure the connection between the player and the computer is established.

Now you need to make sound settings. To do this, open the “Control Panel” in the Start menu, find the section called “Hardware and Sound” and select “Sound”.

Equipment and sound section in the control panel

In the parameters, specify the number of columns. Most often, their number is at least five. This is to adjust the sound reproduction.

At the last stage, the player turns on. In its settings, you should specify the channel required for the audio output.

After that, you can begin to verify the result. In the event that something does not work, it is necessary to check each device individually. This way you can find out if they are working properly or if something is damaged.
