All about the backlight for the PC. DIY lighting

Probably, it sometimes occurs to many to embellish their monotonous computer unit, which serves as a dust collector. Modern gaming computers already have built-in PC backlighting. But, judging objectively, the case for the system unit performs the function of a "skeleton" on which all the necessary organs are attached. This does not directly affect performance. For some, it will be unprofitable to buy a backlit case on a PC. Then people begin to look for alternative ways to decorate their corner and not spend a lot of money at the same time.

Enclosures with integrated backlight

If you are not going to buy a gaming PC with a backlight, then you just need to buy yourself a case with built-in backlight. They differ in price from conventional cases, but this is compensated by the fact that all the elements are already factory-made, that is, if an unforeseen circumstance occurs, you can try to return the case to the warranty sheet (in addition, if a person is not confident in their abilities, it’s better overpay for a backlit case for a PC). And if you decide to take a regular case and fill it with tape and glue, then it will be much more difficult to return it. In any case, everyone decides for himself which body to take and whether to frame it with an LED strip.

LED strip backlight

The first step is to buy an LED strip or order it in an online store. When the LED strip is in your hands, you need to remove the side cover of the system unit housing and outline for yourself where this strip will be located. These places must be treated from dust and other contaminants, you can use alcohol and wipe the inside of the lid.

Now you need to cut the LED strip. On most models, cut lines are indicated every three diodes. The next step is to expose the rear adhesive portion of the tape and lay them on the back of the cover.

Working with wires requires a knack, but even without it, you can perform simple operations. It is necessary to measure and cut the wires, and then solder them to the tape, most importantly, do not confuse the "+" and "-" (usually a positive wire is black / white, negative - any other colors). For best effect, you can use hot glue so that the wires are not set in motion.

The LED strip must be connected to the MOLEX connector. It must be remembered that in the connector the black wire is the "ground", and the yellow is the voltage. After connecting to MOLEX, you need to find a free plug of the power supply to turn on the LED strip.

Monitor backlight via Arduino using Ambilight technology

Backlighting via Arduino is a low-cost analogue of Philips monitor and TV screens with patented Ambilight technology. For the project you will need an Arduino Nano board and LED strips. The pin connection diagram is indicated in the video instruction, it is quite simple even for a beginner. A photoresistor will also be built into the circuit to regulate the light of the tape depending on the time of day.

To use the LED strip, you need to download and install the Ambibox program, and also maintain it in the background while the strip is in use.
