A rash in a newborn is a fairly common occurrence. His skin is very delicate and sensitive to external stimuli and internal factors. Is it worth it to do something or quickly run to the doctor, barely seeing crumbs of rash on the skin? Let's figure it out!
To begin with, in the first three months of life, a rash in a newborn is a frequent and common phenomenon, due to a change in the hormonal background. It is also called "neonatal acne." In appearance, these are small reddish pimples on the face, head, neck and back. This is a natural process, and you don’t need to run to the doctor.
In no case do the following if the rash in the newborn is hormonal :
- do not dry with alcohol and potassium permanganate solutions;
- do not use antibiotics and antiallergenic drugs ;
- Do not sprinkle the irritated area with talcum powder.
The baby can be helped by daily bathing in boiled water, airing the room and humidifying the air in it. And only if the rash occupies significant areas of the body, you should consult a doctor. Typically, in such cases, a cream containing ketoconazole is prescribed.
From the age of three months to one and a half years, a rash in a newborn can be a symptom of “infant acne” - it is sebaceous inflammation with a black dot in the center. Here you can’t do without a pediatrician - he must prescribe treatment and monitor the result.
A rash on the body of a newborn can be a harmless prickly heat, a manifestation of an allergic reaction, and a symptom of dangerous infectious diseases, such as measles, scarlet fever.
Prickly heat
Too warm and cramped clothes, non-observance of hygiene rules can lead to the appearance of sweating - a rash from small bubbles of fluid in the folds of the skin or in the groin, sometimes with itching. It is easy to overcome such a rash in a newborn - more often leave the crumb without clothes, do not confuse it, ventilate the room and regularly bathe the baby. Itching will relieve the compress with soda solution.
Food allergy
The introduction of complementary foods or the use of lactating mothers in food allergen products can cause a rash on the cheeks of a newborn. Usually it resembles blisters from a nettle burn. There is only one solution - try to limit the consumption of allergen products: cow's milk, citrus fruits, nuts, chocolate and brightly colored fruits, vegetables and berries.
Dermatitis
This is a skin reaction to external irritants, such as laundry detergent, fluff, and pet hair. Choose hypoallergenic powder for washing children's things.
If the appearance of a rash on the child’s body is accompanied by a deterioration in well-being, fever, diarrhea, fever or sore throat; if the rash grows throughout the body or fluid is released from the pimples - consult a doctor immediately! Most likely, this is any of the infectious diseases:
- chickenpox;
- roseola or children's three-day fever;
- scarlet fever;
- measles.
During the treatment, the child will need to isolate from others and apply medication, which can only be prescribed by a doctor!
Be attentive to the health status of your baby and contact the clinic on time. Health to you and your child!
