Pregnancy is very good news for almost every woman. Nevertheless, with its onset, quite strange things begin to happen to many of them. Pregnant young ladies begin to look in disgust at those products that were previously very fond of. They can be annoyed by any smell, even quite pleasant, and being in a stuffy room can lead to fainting. A similar incident is called toxicosis during pregnancy. When this condition ends and why this condition begins, not every expectant mother knows. Let's get it right.
Toxicosis - what is it?
If you are constantly sick in the morning and not only, you feel general weakness and inadequately react to the usual smells, then most likely you are pregnant. Of course, to confirm this condition, you should visit a doctor or buy a special test, but these signs are pretty true. The main signs of toxicosis look like this:
- drowsiness;
- nausea and vomiting;
- increased salivation;
- increased irritability;
- depressed state;
- persistent weight loss;
- increased sense of smell.
Itchy skin and various dermatoses can also sometimes occur. The most severe forms lead to osteomalacia, pregnant asthma, tetany and acute yellow hepatic atrophy.
Almost every woman experiencing this condition is very interested in the question of whether toxicosis can end on its own or if it needs to be treated. Before talking about the methods of exposure and treatment, it is worthwhile to dwell in more detail on the causes and timing of toxicosis.
When does it feel like this
Many women planning pregnancy become preoccupied with all the intricacies of this condition. First of all, of course, they are interested in what month toxicosis ends, but it is more important to be prepared for the onset of poor health.
Deterioration of health in pregnant women is early and late. Early toxicosis most often manifests itself at 4-6 weeks of gestation, and in special cases even at the first week of conception. However, doctors do not associate such an excessively early toxicosis with the physiological state of a woman. Most often, the reasons are psychological: the girl is too worried about unprotected intercourse, her blood pressure jumps, and as a result she develops nausea.
Real toxicosis most often manifests itself in the first trimester of pregnancy. At a later date, women can survive this condition again. In recent months, doctors often call this condition not toxicosis, but gestosis of pregnant women.
It is a mistake to assume that if a girl is pregnant, she will definitely feel sick sooner or later. Such a statement is fundamentally false. The absence of toxicosis is the same physiological norm as its presence. There is a significant percentage of women who do not experience any negative feelings at all. Unfortunately, the percentage of fortunate ones is rather small, so let's talk about when toxicosis of the first and last trimesters begins and when toxicosis ends.
How much to suffer?
In principle, exact dates are pretty hard to determine. Everything is very individual here. Some ladies can observe only slight nausea and dizziness, while others are forced to ask for placement in a hospital. The same picture with the timing. The onset of discomfort usually occurs in the fifth week and ends by the 12-13th.
When toxicosis of the first trimester ends, in pregnant women there comes a rather pleasant period in terms of well-being. This is such a natural respite, allowing to replenish strength and feel the joy of future motherhood. But after three months, everything can change. Toxicosis in the last stages most often proceeds much harder, and its consequences are more dangerous for both mother and child.
In addition to all the previously mentioned symptoms, swelling, high blood pressure and excruciating heartburn are also added. This condition can continue until the very birth, therefore, when the toxicosis ends this time, the young mother feels happy twice: the baby is already with her and all these terrible conditions are behind.
Causes
Why and why toxicosis manifests itself is still not reliably known. It is logical to assume that this condition is caused by a hormonal change in the body of the expectant mother, which is simply necessary for the proper development of the fetus. Of course, when the toxicosis ends, this is a big relief, but probably, if the reasons for its appearance were known exactly, unpleasant sensations could have been avoided at all.
Today it has been reliably established that toxicosis most often affects young women with gastrointestinal, thyroid, or liver diseases. Smokers, as well as those who work a lot and often experience nervous strain, will also have to suffer. There are several more factors that contribute to the manifestation of toxicosis:
- the presence of chronic diseases of any kind;
- hereditary predisposition;
- psychological components;
- very early pregnancy.
The vast majority of doctors consider toxicosis to be a normal condition and advises simply to endure this period.
Of course, if you just become a little more irritable or want to sleep all the time, there is nothing dangerous about it. But what if you are tormented by uncontrolled debilitating vomiting or you are rapidly losing weight at a time when you should gain it?
The consequences of toxicosis
So, we have found out when the poor state of health in pregnant women begins and when the toxicosis ends. Now let's talk about why you should not endure and wait, but you need to tell your doctor about your feelings.
Severe toxicosis can result in damage to the liver or kidneys. Since electrolyte-water metabolism is disturbed due to frequent vomiting in the body of the expectant mother, toxicosis of pregnant women often has a smell of acetone from the mouth. For the same reason, a woman’s body does not receive the necessary amount of vitamins and minerals, which is why osteoporosis is likely to develop, and convulsions are often observed. Because of the fragility of the bones, fractures become more frequent, even at light loads. A lack of calcium and other minerals also leads to the destruction and loss of hair and teeth.
Toxicosis with double
A multiple pregnancy often gives the expectant mother much more problems and discomfort. This is due to the fact that in a woman carrying twins, and even more so triplets, the concentration of hormones in the blood is even higher. Therefore, when the toxicosis ends (and this usually happens at 16 weeks), the expectant mother will have double (or triple) relief. However, there are also such exceptions when a woman bearing more than one fetus does not experience any unpleasant sensations at all.
What do doctors advise
All doctors treat toxicosis in different ways. Basically, treatment methods are divided into four groups:
- medication;
- homeopathic;
- aromatherapy;
- immunocytotherapy.
The first option is most popular in especially severe cases. It should be understood that all medications, except, perhaps, vitamin complexes and No-shpa, are toxic and dangerous. But sometimes you can’t do without them. In especially severe cases, the pregnant woman is certainly placed in a hospital and all activities are carried out under the strict supervision of the attending physician. In this article, I would like to get away from the specific names of the drugs used for treatment, because only a doctor can prescribe them. In 99% of cases, drug treatment is quite successful, completely or partially removing the symptoms of toxicosis.
The second treatment option is homeopathy. This method is the most harmless for both the mother and the child, because the drugs are selected individually, taking into account all the features. With this treatment, side effects or accidental overdose are practically eliminated.
Aromatherapy It is widely used to treat toxicosis peppermint oil. It is enough to place a handkerchief near the bed for several nights in a row with a couple of drops of this oil - and the painful morning bouts of vomiting will become weaker. Ginger oil also helps . If you feel a sharp malaise, drop ginger oil in your palm, rub and slowly and deeply inhale several times. The nausea will recede.
Immunocytotherapy is considered the most progressive treatment for toxicosis. This is such a procedure when a woman under the skin on her forearm is injected with the purified lymphocytes of her husband (sexual partner). The effect occurs most often after a day. Such treatment is carried out only in a hospital after a thorough examination of the partner for various infections: HIV, syphilis, hepatitis C and B. It should be noted that the method is quite dangerous, despite the studies, there is still a risk of infection of the mother and / or child with one of these diseases.
In addition to these methods, some doctors also use acupuncture, hypnosis and other non-traditional methods.
How to relieve symptoms at home
As you already understood, you should not wait when toxicosis should end, you can and should fight it. First of all, you can try to help yourself:
- walk and air more often;
- before getting out of bed in the morning, eat some nuts, a cracker of gray bread or a small cookie;
- eat reclining or lie down briefly and immediately after eating;
- exclude from the menu fried, salty, fatty and instant foods;
- eat more foods containing vitamin B6 - fish, beans, eggs, avocados, chicken;
- if you feel sick, chew more (caraway seeds, chewing gum, mint leaves), it is proved that chewing movements reduce vomiting;
- eat every 2 hours, but little by little, snack with a slice of lemon, nuts, dried fruits, etc .;
- food should be cool or slightly warmed up;
- accustom yourself every morning to drink a glass of warm alkaline mineral water without gas;
- drink often, but little by little, fruit drinks, chamomile tea, rosehip infusion, apple juice, boiled water with honey and lemon, green tea are suitable ;
- you can use infusions of peppermint, chamomile, sage, calendula, valerian and yarrow, these herbs are good for copious saliva.
