How to remove the battery from the motherboard: instructions

A lithium battery located on the motherboard is responsible for the computer's operation with space. In other words, if its charge runs out completely, you will have to set the corresponding date and time each time you turn on the PC. To avoid this, you need to know how to remove the battery from the computer motherboard.

Necessary materials

Before you begin this operation, you need to prepare tools that will simplify the work and protect you from breakdown of expensive components. You will need:

  • New battery. There are no special requirements for this item. The only thing worth paying attention to is the country of origin. It is better to take Japanese or Korean. They will last longer.
  • Screwdriver. It is necessary to remove the wall of the system unit, the power supply itself and the motherboard (if necessary).
  • Tweezers. Needed to complete the replacement process itself.

Now you can start the instructions on how to remove the battery from the motherboard.

Preparation for work

Motherboard

The first thing to do is completely shut down the system. To do this, simply run the following algorithm:

  • close all programs and windows;
  • turn off the computer and wait for its complete cessation of work;
  • It should be borne in mind that after turning off the system, the motherboard continues to work from the backup battery, which is the power supply.

On some models, this is indicated by the LED. To avoid damage to parts, completely disconnect the personal computer from power (turn off the power supply using the switch and unplug the cable from the outlet).

Now you can proceed to the next step in resolving the issue of how to remove the battery from the motherboard.

Body disassembly

Now you need to get the board itself in order to replace the desired item. To do this, follow the instructions below:

  • Disconnect all wires from the system unit.
  • Carefully place it on its side and remove the side cover, which is located opposite the board.
  • There will be two options. In the first of them, removing one of the walls is enough to get free access to the place where the battery is located. In the second of them will have to tinker. Here you will need to remove the connected video card or disconnect the SATA cables. It is recommended to completely disable the motherboard so as not to ruin anything.
  • Before you remove the battery from the motherboard, make sure that nothing will interfere with the process (in particular, the power supply, which can block the socket itself with the element).

Inspecting the board and replacing a failed item

The most important step in replacing a power component. Now you need to find the battery itself:

  • Inspect the motherboard. Your goal is a small silver pancake.

  • If it could not be found, try to find a small rectangular toggle switch. It will display an alarm clock. If you have it installed instead of a battery, you will either have to put up with the regular setting of the date and time, or simply change the motherboard to a more modern one, since you have a part of an older model.
  • After you find the location of the battery, gently push the screwdriver onto the latch, which is located on the side and holds it inside.

  • Now, using the tweezers, install a new battery, also sliding the shutter. After you removed the battery from the motherboard, you can proceed to reassemble the computer. Following the order, install the video card on the part and connect all the wires. Then return the power supply to the case and put the wall back. Reconnect all wires to the computer and start.
  • Before logging in, run CMOS Setup and make the date and time settings.
