Which Clock Mechanism to Choose?

From the whole variety of watches it is difficult to choose the best if you do not know the features of one or another component of this product.

Perhaps the most important part is the mechanism. It is because of him that the watch, in fact, is called the watch. He is responsible for the accuracy of the displayed time, and sometimes decorates the appearance of the product.

There are 3 main types of watches:

  • mechanical;
  • quartz;
  • electronic.

Mechanical watches appeared the very first. Since the invention, they have been repeatedly improved and refined. The driving force is the energy of unwinding a tightly twisted spring. It drives a tiny pendulum that transfers rotation to the performing gears. The disadvantage of this mechanism is the unevenness of the created effort. So, with a maximally compressed spring, the maximum energy is; when it is weakened, the energy decreases. This leads to errors in the displayed time. Of course, there is GOST, which regulates the permissible error, but it does not eliminate the whole problem.

A more advanced option - mechanical with automatic winding. Such a mechanism is installed on more expensive models and replica watches . Automatic winding spins the spring as it loosens. Energy is generated from the natural vibrations of the clockwork, for example, from hand movements when walking. Such a device is quite complex and expensive to replace parts in case of breakage. The disadvantage is the lack of winding when using watches in sedentary professions or when they lie somewhere on a shelf.

The next step in the development of watch movements is quartz watches. The movement energy is taken from a conventional battery or from a small photocell. They transmit impulses through a quartz crystal to a small electric motor, and already it drives the gears of the mechanism. Such a mechanism does not depend on the mode of use and is quite accurate. The disadvantage is the rush of hours with the "aging" of the crystal.

The latest advancement in the watch industry is the electronic movement. The battery energy is transferred to a mechanism that turns on and off at a certain moment the necessary sections of the screen, thus forming numbers. Such men's wrist watch have higher accuracy than all of the above.

There are no strict requirements in society about what kind of watch to wear for a man. Each type has its own advantages. And the final decision depends only on the taste and style of the owner.
