The doormat "Butterfly" do it yourself

Potholder is an indispensable thing in the kitchen. In addition to its direct purpose, it can be a bright element of decor. Making an accessory yourself is quite simple with the help of improvised tools. The shape of the product can be either familiar square, or unusual, original. In the article, we will consider how to make the Butterfly tack.

Useful Tips

Before you start sewing, it is recommended to pay attention to some tips:

  1. Since the tack should protect your hands from burns when touching hot objects, then natural materials are used for its manufacture.
  2. For decorative elements, it is also better to choose difficultly flammable details, synthetics and satin are inappropriate in this case.
  3. It’s best to immediately make a full-size Butterfly tack pattern.
  4. Between the upper and lower parts of the product must necessarily be a layer of padding polyester or unnecessary flaps. Without it, a tack performs only a decorative function.
  5. Before sewing, new fabric cuts must be washed and ironed.
  6. It is advisable to check whether matter sheds. To do this, the workpiece is lowered into hot water. If it is painted in any color, it is better not to use fabric. After using the finished product, it will need to be washed, as a result, it will fade and lose its original attractive appearance.

Necessary materials, pattern

For independent manufacture of the Butterfly tack you will need:

  • cotton fabric in several colors;
  • synthetic winterizer;
  • satin ribbon and slanting trim;
  • buttons and lace for decoration;
  • cardboard for a pattern;
  • scissors, pencil, needle, thread;

If you can draw, you can draw the desired shape yourself. It is much easier to sew the Butterfly tack according to the pattern-pattern. In addition, if you like the product, this will allow you to further produce exactly the same accessories in shape.

First, a sketch is made on plain paper. The wingspan of the upper wings is 26 cm, the lower ones are 21 cm, and the middle part and the height of the butterfly are 16 cm. When the outline is ready, proceed to draw individual details. The wings are 18 cm long, but make them slightly larger so that the fingers fit easily inside. The final version is transferred to cardboard and cut out.

You can decorate the tack to your taste or, as in this embodiment, for this you need a circle with a diameter of 6 cm and a petal 10 cm in length.

Cut out the elements

In order for the Butterfly tack to be beautiful, it is necessary to choose rags that harmoniously combine with each other in color. Of course, in the absence of a variety of fabrics, the product can also be sewn in one color, but ideally these are six rags of different colors.

Tools for work

A life-size β€œButterfly” tack pattern is applied to the fabric, outlined with a simple pencil or pin with pins, and then cut along the contour. The result should be:

  • two whole butterflies of different colors;
  • two wings of one and the other color;
  • solid butterfly from synthetic winterizer or other filler;
  • two decorative elements, in this case - a petal and a circle.

Finish

You can sew various elements to the product as a decor for the Butterfly tack. For this, various materials are used: beads, ribbons, buttons, braid and other textile details. It all depends on imagination and improvised means. In this case, it is a fabric in the form of a drop and a circle, lace and buttons. All parts must be attached symmetrically.

Each circle around the perimeter is stitched with thread and pulled together. The petals are bent to the wrong side by 0.5 cm and basted. Then the parts are carefully ironed on both sides. From the inside, lace is sewn to the mugs. At the end of the decoration, a button is attached to the center of each part on the front side. For a contrasting effect, it is recommended to use thick threads, for example, floss.

Sew the tack

Before proceeding to the final processing of parts, they must be folded in the correct order. The sequence is as follows: inside out the butterfly, then a layer of sealant (in this case, synthetic winterizer) and again the butterfly face up. Next, wings, folded in two parts, with the wrong side to each other, are applied on each side. So that the butterfly can be hung up and for greater resemblance to a real moth, two strips (antennae) 20 cm long are cut out of the tape.

All details are ironed in the order in which they will be stitched. If a synthetic winterizer peeps from a butterfly, it is carefully cut with scissors. They start trimming the edges of the wings, leaving the inner part not stitched, it will be further edged with a ribbon.

The antennae are folded in half in the form of a loop and placed between butterflies folded with the front side to each other, the ends should remain outside. A stitch is made along the contour of the head with small stitches. The product is turned out, the synthetic winterizer is laid, without losing one's head. As a result, the item takes on volume and shape. The product is again ironed and stitched around the perimeter, departing from the edge of 0.3-0.5 cm. So that after washing, the synthetic winterizer remains in place, does not crumple, and the tack does not lose shape, it can be quilted additionally. To do this, measure and draw lines with a ruler at an angle of 45 Β° to one and the other side, and then make lines on them.

Final processing

Now you can start decorating the wings. A circle is sewn onto the top of the part with invisible stitches. Do the same with the second element. Petals are sewn to the bottom of the wing manually with large stitches or sewn on a typewriter. Then proceed to the processing of unfinished edges. To do this, cut off the tape of the desired length and use a sewing machine to attach along the rim of the decorated side of the wing. The second edge is bent down and sewn by hand with hidden stitches.

Full-size pattern

The final stage is the turning of the Butterfly tack with a slanting inlay. Wings pin with the pins or sweep the main article. A 4.5 cm thick strip is cut diagonally from a piece of fabric. An edge of 0.5 cm is bent on each side and ironed. Along the perimeter of the tack on the front side they attach, and from the back side sew an oblique inlay by hand with small stitches.

So easily and quickly you can decorate your kitchen with a bright accessory. In the same color scheme, you can make cup holders and a stand for a kettle. And if the creative process is to your liking, why not sew pots for family and friends?
