From the very first day after the birth of the baby, newly-minted parents seek to understand who the child looks more like. And if the shape of the eyebrows or chin can somehow prompt an answer to such questions, then the color of the eyes is unlikely. At birth, many have a blue iris, but when the baby's eye color changes, they can turn out to be green and gray.
How does the baby's appearance changeThe appearance of the baby can seriously change within a few months after birth. The shape of the body, the shape of the nose and the color of the eyes change especially noticeably. Children born just a few days ago usually have a more convex belly, a swollen chest, and an elongated body. Sometimes children have slightly oblique noses, which soon take on a completely normal shape. Finally, the iris is most often bright blue, but over time, the color of the eyes changes in children.
Why does eye color change?
The eye of the child is arranged in the same way as in an adult.
It includes the optic nerves, cornea and lens.
The visual acuity of the newborn is reduced and increases every day, striving for an adult norm. Already on the eighth day after childbirth, the baby knows how to focus his vision on specific objects for a few seconds. After a couple of months, the gaze begins to linger longer, and at six months the child already distinguishes the shape of the objects. In a year, the baby can even recognize drawings. The color of the baby’s iris is determined by the pigment melanin. A large amount of it provides a person with
brown eyes, and if there is little melanin, the eyes will be gray. Melanin does not affect the ability to see and appears after a couple of years, when the child's eye color changes completely. It is quite difficult to predict in advance exactly what the color of the eyes will be, but there are usually more brown-eyed people than light-eyed people, so if mom or dad has dark eyes, children will most likely also have brown eyes. For each person, the process of producing pigment goes differently, so sometimes it turns out that when a child changes eye color for the first time, this may not be the last option, and in a couple of months new changes will occur. The main thing to follow is the color of the pupil. If the pupils of the child are cloudy and opaque, this may be the reason for the visit to the optometrist. It is very important to prevent eye diseases on time, so you really need to pay attention to the color of the pupil. But the color of the eyes is not so important if the baby is happy and healthy.
Some statisticsMost often, when a child changes eye color, he turns brown-eyed - this is the most common color on the planet. The rarest shade is green, out of hundreds of children only two will have such eyes, and in some countries people with this color of the iris cannot be found at all. In addition, one out of a hundred babies turns out to have eyes of different colors. This phenomenon is called heterochromia, and it is not a visual defect . Genetics believe that parents with eyes of different colors will have a child whose iris will represent something in between the shades of the eyes of mom and dad, unless, of course, one of them is brown-eyed.
