Any professional and even amateur program has its own interface, providing convenience and comfort. But not every interface works quickly. To fix this, application developers support the idea of hot keys, which provide an online mode of operation. This function of work was introduced a long time ago and managed to gain popularity among all professional and promising programs at that time. Hotkeys in Photoshop appeared in the earliest versions - now their number has increased. A user who knows hotkeys greatly simplifies their work.
Work with image
When retouching photos, hot keys are often used, since without them you have to spend extra time searching for the right tools. In this block, hot keys are mainly responsible for opening dialog boxes.
Keyboard shortcuts:
- Ctrl + Alt + I. Displaying the Image Size window allows you to adjust the size of the object.
- Ctrl + L. Display the Levels window. Allows you to adjust the color scheme using the sliders in a special window. The standard window call: "Image" - "Correction" - "Levels".
- Ctrl + M. Required to open the Curves tab. Editing takes place by increasing / decreasing the radius of curvature of the curve and creating new extrusion reference points. Standard location: Image - Correction - Curves.

Keyboard Shortcuts
Working with layers can be difficult in some cases. This is due to the large number of layers or their active substitution. Sometimes you need to add a layer in Photoshop. Sometimes you need to remove a large number of unnecessary. In such cases, it is useful to use keyboard shortcuts in Photoshop to save time and nerves.
- Ctrl + J. Create a new layer by copying the currently active layer.
- Shift + Ctrl + J. With this combination of keys, a new layer is formed by cutting.
- Shift + Ctrl + N. This combination allows you to add a layer in Photoshop and edit it later.
- Shift + Ctrl + E. Using these hotkeys it is possible to combine all layers into one common one.
- Shift + Ctrl +]. The previously selected layer is located above all others. A function may be needed in order to evaluate the general arrangement of layers and correct defects in working with them.
- Shift + Ctrl + [. Puts the selected layer at the very end of the list of layers.
- Ctrl +]. Moves the selected layer one position higher than before.
- Ctrl + [. The selected layer descends to the layer below in the general list of layers.
Keyboard Shortcuts
Some may not understand why hotkeys are needed for brushes. After all, it is much easier to click on the PCM, and all the settings for this tool will be in front of the user’s eyes. But in fact, quick keyboard shortcuts can allow the user not to open the auxiliary tab at all. To use hotkeys in Photoshop for brushes, simply select the tool of the same name on the access panel (semantic quotes are used only for visual perception - hot keys are entered without quotes):
- "[". Pressing a key will reduce the size of the brush.
- "]". Increase brush size after typing.
- "{". Reduces stiffness, making the track more vague.
- "}". Entering this key increases the hardness of the brush. The interface between the layer and the brush becomes sharper.
- ",". Selects the previous brush that precedes the current one in the common set.
- ".". Switch to the next brush in the set.
- "<". Select the very first brush in the set. The default is white round.
- ">". Select the most recent brush in the list. If the user has not created an assembly of brushes for quick access, then he will have the last ones that were loaded last.
Text editing
To use keyboard shortcuts for text, you must select the Text tool and create a workspace.
- Shift + Ctrl + C. Adjusts the text so that it is centered.
- Shift + Ctrl + L. Activates a sub-adjustment that will align the text to the left.
- Shift + Ctrl + R. Activate the right alignment function.
- Shift + Ctrl +>. Increases dimension. If the characters are larger than the work area, the letters will no longer be displayed. To fix this, you need to increase the workspace.
- Shift + Ctrl + <. Decreases the dimension of the text. Often used to fit all characters on a small work area.
- Alt + Right Arrow Increase the spacing between letters.
- Alt + left arrow. Reduces the spacing between letters.
Keyboard shortcuts for selection
Sometimes you have to use Photoshop keyboard shortcuts to work with selection. The functions associated with this parameter are hidden inside sections, which prompts users to remember the keys.
- Ctrl + D. Resets the selection of a section.
- Shift + Ctrl + D. Restores the previous selection.
- Ctrl + Alt + A. Selects an area across all layers.
How to change keyboard shortcuts in Photoshop
If the user is not satisfied with the default keys, then they can change their purpose. You can also remove and hide unnecessary functions, while freeing up keyboard sub-settings convenient for him.
To save yourself from unnecessary keys, you need to go to the "Editing" section, where you need to select the "Keyboard Shortcuts" item. A dialog box will open. There you can calibrate some of your keys and assign really necessary functions to them. In any case, all settings can be reverted to the default values.
