The date of February 23 in our country is traditionally considered to be masculine day. Alas, few of our compatriots know that there is another holiday when representatives of the strong half of humanity can rightfully accept congratulations. International Men's Day (World Men's Day) was established on the independent initiative of President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev; it is celebrated on the first November Saturday. We will tell you more about this wonderful holiday and the history of its occurrence.
Being at the head of state, Mikhail Gorbachev decided once and for all to end male discrimination by introducing the appropriate holiday. His initiative was supported by the UN office in Vienna, the Military Magistrate and other
international organizations. In the USA, Australia, Great Britain, Singapore, India and a number of other countries, International Men's Day is celebrated on November 19 and, in fact, has nothing to do with our holiday. It was established in Trinidad and Tobago relatively recently - in 1999. It aims to restore gender equality. Today, more than fifty countries around the world address their congratulations to the man on this very day.
In 2009, the main goals pursued by states celebrating International Men's Day were formally approved. Namely:
• The desire to emphasize the important role of an ordinary middle-class man living a decent and honest life.
• Maintenance of social, emotional, spiritual and physical health and well-being of a strong half of humanity.
• Suppression of legal and social male discrimination.
• Ensuring
gender equality and improving communication between the sexes.
• Providing opportunities to realize their own potential.
Every year, International Men's Day is dedicated to a specific topic. 2003 - for men's health, 2007 - for healing and forgiveness, 2009 - for the important role of men, etc. On this day, in many countries around the world, a variety of open seminars, radio and television programs, round tables, demonstrations, marches, and school events are held.
In our country, this holiday is celebrated not so globally, and the vast majority of the population of Russia does not even suspect its existence. Meanwhile, male mortality in our population reaches a record high, it is four times higher than female indicators. Therefore, the slogan "Take care of men!" in our country is more than justified.
Of course, on this wonderful holiday, men expect us to care, attention and kind words. Just tell them how much they mean to you. And if you are not hoping for your eloquence, then just look for a thematic congratulation. Here is an example of one of them:
