GAI Day - holiday features

GAI Day today is a professional holiday for road service employees who monitor the maintenance of order on motorways, as well as compliance by motorists with traffic rules. The role of the traffic police in Russian settlements is difficult to overestimate, since every year the number of cars driving on domestic highways increases, traffic on the roads becomes as intense as possible, and therefore the work of inspectors remains necessary. Thanks to representatives of this profession, the number of victims of road accidents on domestic roads has slightly decreased in recent years, and the number of “drunken accidents” is constantly decreasing. However, the accident rate, unfortunately, still remains quite high, so the traffic police almost always have enough work.

History : Traffic Police Day is now celebrated on July 3, since on this memorable date back in 1936 the first State Automobile Inspection in the USSR was founded . Traffic police officers were subordinate to the police department of the NKVD of the USSR, and the work of employees in those years was still as simple as possible. So, in 1936, a small number of cars moved along the streets of Soviet cities, and pedestrians, wagon owners and cab drivers, according to the rules, had to give way to cars. Drivers of cars, in turn, were forced to pass buses and special vehicles forward.

Only in the 60s, after the accession of the USSR to the International Convention, did the new rules come into force, and the work of the traffic police increased. In 1998, the organization was renamed the State Inspectorate for Road Safety, which is why the professional holiday of “traffic cops” is often called today “Traffic Police Day”, however, in 2002, the traffic police departments decided to return the old name.

The role of the traffic police : At present, the traffic police’s day emphasizes the crucial role that the traffic police have. In addition to imposing fines and other penalties, traffic cops conduct a number of important events related to traffic safety issues for absolutely all of its participants. Thanks to the guidance of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, the most important information is disseminated in the domestic media, which allows us to create a positive image of law-abiding pedestrians and drivers. “Traffic cops” also take part in various public events, attend educational institutions and introduce students to traffic rules, as well as safe behavior on the road.

The authorities pay great attention to increasing the level of professionalism of the traffic police inspectors, are developing joint exercises of traffic cops and various rescue services, and are introducing innovative technical tools to record information and violations. Modern traffic police posts are being built on the roads so that traffic cops can work in the most comfortable conditions for themselves.

Celebration : The traffic police day, most inspectors are forced to celebrate at the workplace, maintaining road safety, traveling to various traffic accidents and stopping malicious violators, whose actions lead to emergencies on highways. In the morning, before you need to take up the post, "traffic cops" listen to congratulations on the Day of the GAI from the immediate superiors, and then are taken for the performance of daily duties. Due to the nature of the service, inspectors cannot raise glasses with strong drinks, congratulating their colleagues and colleagues on their professional holiday, and also get together in the building of the traffic police. Only after the end of the duty, inspectors are allowed to celebrate the holiday in a close circle somewhere in a restaurant or at home, together with family members and other close people.
