A magnetic sheet is a material made from a special polymer mixture with the addition of magnetic powder, which occupies up to 70% of the finished product. This is a fairly flexible material, the magnetism of which is determined by the amount of powder in it. The thickness of the sheet also depends on this.
The main characteristics of magnetic sheets
Magnetic sheets do not contain toxic substances, therefore, relate to eco-products. They do not corrode. The possibility that the sheets are easy to machine has increased the range of use of this material. It is easily subjected to cutting with a knife or scissors, die cutting, drilling. Being a moisture-resistant material, it easily withstands temperature extremes, the range of which can range from -30 to +70 degrees. Sheets have high strength and wear resistance, which allows this material to be used for a long time. If necessary, they can easily be deformed without losing properties.
Magnetic sheets are available in various thicknesses: 0.4 mm, 0.7 mm, 0.9 mm, 1.5 mm.
Types of Magnetic Sheets
The main varieties:
- adhesive sheet with a magnetic layer;
- lack of coverage;
- PVC coated vinyl.
The most commonly used sheets are those with an adhesive layer.
Adhesive Magnetic Sheets
As mentioned above, for the manufacture of this product uses an elastic material with a ferrite coating. Magnetized material remains on one side only. The second side has a coating of adhesive, to which, as a rule, a printed sheet is attached. In simple words, a magnetic sheet having an adhesive coating is a two-layer material, one layer of which is magnetic vinyl, and the second is an adhesive coating, the presence of which allows you to easily attach the required image printed on plain paper to the surface, you only need to remove the film first.
Application area
Magnetic sheets are widely used in various advertising campaigns. They are used in universities for the visual placement of educational material in lectures for students.
Magnetic business cards are made of these sheets, as well as magnets with the application of this or that information (all known magnets on the refrigerator).
Puzzles and all kinds of souvenirs are made from sheets with an adhesive layer.
Due to the lack of lead in the composition of the magnetic sheet, adhesive coated sheets were also used in child care facilities during events that have a general educational direction.
Used in the manufacture of magnetic calendars and notebooks, to create all kinds of games that contribute to the development of the child.
Photo Albums with Magnetic Sheets
Their pages are sheets with an adhesive coating that is covered with a transparent film fixed on the outer edge of the sheet. Pictures are attached to the page with a film that magnetizes to the sheet. It should be noted that the back side of the photo is not glued, because the image remains in complete safety.
To place pictures on a sheet, you need to unscrew the transparent film and lay out the photos in the desired form and order. When unfolding images, it is necessary that a small free field remains around the perimeter, otherwise the film will have nothing to stick to. After the page contains the desired photos, it is tightly covered with film. This must be done in such a way that there are no air bubbles left, wrinkles do not appear. To avoid such formations, when gluing the film it is necessary to pull it a little with one hand, and gradually press the second one from the rib to the sheet. If the first time it was not possible to make even pasting, the film must be separated and repeat this process again.
Despite the fact that manufacturers convince that the photos under the film can be changed several times without changing the quality of fixation, this is not recommended if there is no urgent need. Customer reviews indicate that stickiness is worsening each time.
Pros of Magnetic Albums
A lot of them:
- it is an opportunity to arrange pictures of various sizes in the necessary sequence;
- pages have a thickness close to the density of cardboard album sheets;
- pictures can be placed at the desired slope;
- under photographs it is possible to place various inscriptions printed on separate paper, as well as other design elements, for example, clippings or cartoons;
- the ability to place copies of the necessary documents together with pictures, for example, about marriage or the baptism of a child
Disadvantages of Magnetic Albums
An album with magnetic sheets has some disadvantages:
- with frequent extraction of pictures, the stickiness of the film deteriorates;
- higher cost compared to regular albums;
- changing the shape of the film during prolonged use, for example, when replacing a larger image with a smaller one, there are traces of the previous photo;
- discoloration of the adhesive over time (the appearance of yellowness).
