There are so many species of hunting breeds in the world that it is sometimes difficult for an experienced specialist to understand this variety. Indeed, it is difficult to be sure of the correct choice of a reliable assistant. However, there are dogs whose reputation and “professionalism” have been tested over the years of their impeccable service to humans. First of all, it is a magnificent hunting breed of Kurzhaar.
This name is translated from German as “short-haired”. The ancestors of these intelligent animals were the Spanish and German Shorthaired Pointing Dogs, which were crossed with the Pointers. In different countries, this breed is called the "German Shorthair Pointing Dog" (this name she bears in Russia) or the "Shorthair German Pointer". In Germany, in the year eighty-seventy-ninth, the Kurzhaar standard was adopted. Description of the breed appeared after its official approval. The international standard appeared only after 33 years, in 1912.
After the war, the Kurzhaar began his triumphal march through Europe. After a while, he enters the United States, where he is gaining unprecedented popularity - in 1955 there were more than 15 thousand Kurtshaar dogs in the country. The description of the breed was published in all reference books for professional dog handlers and in magazines for dog lovers. It was in America that he began to be called the "jack of all trades" for his amazing versatility and ability to adapt to the most diverse types of hunting. Particular admiration was caused by his ability to cope with his "professional" duties in the harsh climate and difficult terrain.
Russian hunters met the Kurzhaar dog, the description of the breed of which was already known to many at the beginning of the twentieth century. In fairness, it must be said that she did not receive such a high-profile fame as in the USA in our country. There are different opinions about this phenomenon. Some experts believe that the reason for this is the import of a large number of animals without a pedigree. Naturally, their hunting qualities were somewhat "erased" than their thoroughbred counterparts. But most connoisseurs of canine breeds believe that the Kurzhaar could not stand the competition with other breeds (pointers) that are very popular in Russia.
Used exclusively as a hunting dog, a kurzhaar (breed description confirms this) has never been bred for exhibition activities. This is a pure hunter. For each type of game he has his own method of work. If suddenly the object of fishing changes, the animal is instantly rebuilt.
Kurtshaar has a muscular, harmoniously folded body. Its height at the withers is 64 centimeters, its weight does not exceed 32 kilograms. The short and thick fur of these animals is usually dyed in all shades of brown. He is quick and easy to learn. Kurzhaar puppies, photos of which you can see in this article, are developing quite quickly. This dog is ideal for novice hunters. If the inexperienced owner does not know what to do in a given situation, the four-legged companion will tell him the way out.
