How to clean ink: a few tips

"How to wash ink?" - This question can often be seen on various forums on the Internet. Ink spots are quite persistent, but removing them is not an insoluble task. It is quite possible to remove the stain yourself, without resorting to dry cleaning services.

Most types of modern ink are water soluble. However, do not despair even if after washing they remained on the clothes: there are various options for solving this problem. So, the spots from the ballpoint pen are perfectly wiped off with cologne or alcohol. The contaminated area is wiped in the direction from the edges to the middle, if necessary changing a cotton swab. Stains on white fabric are usually well removed with chlorine bleach. If in this way it did not work out, they use hydrogen peroxide and ammonia. They wipe the place of contamination with peroxide, after which it is treated with a solution of ammonia (a teaspoon in a glass of water), then the clothes are washed in warm soapy water. This is the answer to the question of how to remove ink from a white cloth so that there is no trace of them.

The next way is for those who want to get rid of traces. on colored fabric. Almost any ink stains can be removed immediately after you stain your clothes, if you moisten them with plenty of lemon juice (citric acid). The advice here is only one: if you are not sure about the durability of the dye, do not rub the clothes very much, otherwise it will be damaged. Those who are interested in how to wash ink from denim can recommend trying to get rid of a small spot with warm water, ordinary laundry soap and a soft brush, which should be gently rubbed several times, pre-soaped. However, this method is good only for small and rather pale spots, large and intensely colored from such processing will only β€œfloat”, and jeans will be spoiled forever.

Trying to wipe the ink from the jeans, it is advisable not to use alcohol or ammonia. Since the unstable paint of denim can simply be etched by these means. In extreme cases, you can try their effect on the lapels or internal seams of the product. The same advice applies to the well-known, popular Vanish stain remover for colored fabrics. In many cases, it can be used to perfectly remove ink stains from jeans, without spoiling the appearance of clothing, but it is better to check its effect first.

Perhaps the most difficult case is the ink stain on the carpet. Since it is difficult to remove ink from it, especially if the contamination is strong, some immediately throw it away or cut out a damaged piece to replace it with a new one. However, do not rush - you can try to save the carpet. Most often it is processed using the same "Vanish", but for carpets. A fresh stain of freshly spilled ink is thoroughly blotted with paper towels, then moistened with a 30% alcohol solution, and then washed several times with cold water. This method can work if the carpet is dark in color, but it is almost impossible to save a white or very light carpet after ink spilled onto it.

To remove the ink stain from a leather jacket or bag, ordinary fine grinding salt will help. It is poured on a contaminated place and slightly sprayed with water. After 10-12 hours, the salt is gently shaken off and the soiled area is treated with a cotton swab dipped in turpentine. You can also try wiping it with a mixture of glycerol with methylated spirits or ordinary alcohol, taken in a ratio of 2: 5. However, in this case, discoloration of the skin is not excluded, therefore, this method is best tested on products that can be easily tinted with your own hands - for example, black or brown. Jackets or bags of exotic colors are best not to be stained with this compound.
