Magnetic paper is a relatively new area in the manufacture of magnets. It is made from magnetic powder and polymer blends. Due to its composition, the paper has the qualities of both rubber and magnet. By tactile sensations, it looks like a simple rubber.
The main properties of the material
The magnetic properties of the product depend on the amount of powder in the composition, which affects the thickness of the sheet. The material is appreciated for its good “gluing” to the surface of metal and is actively used for advertising and souvenir products. Sheets that have an additional coating are white on one side (there are also color samples) and look like plain paper, and on the other they are dark and resemble rubber.
The two main features that ordinary users like are flexibility and easy material cutting. The second quality was to the liking of craft enthusiasts, because ordinary knives and scissors quite easily cope with magnetic sheets. Paper flexibility is used for curved surfaces where a hard sheet does not fit.
Magnetic printer paper
There are several types of coating for various printing:
- Coated for string printing. Another name for this material is magnetic photo paper. The format is most often leafy, but is also found in rolls. There are two types: with a glossy and matte finish. Operational properties are similar to ordinary photo paper: a similar coating, printing is done using the same pigments and ink. It is worth considering that the sheet thickness is from 0.26 mm, some printers will not be able to work with paper of this thickness. Due to rapid wear, it is recommended to hide the pattern on the matte finish with an additional layer of clear varnish. A glossy surface can save an image longer.
- Coated for offset printing. The surface characteristics are similar to plain offset paper, but differ in their anti-corrosion capabilities. Paper size from A3 to roll. The thickness of the material is thin enough for printing, but not for every printer.
- Coated for UV printing or screen printing. The difference of the product in its wear resistance: resistance to corrosion, ultraviolet and moisture. These properties are widely used by marketers for outdoor advertising.
Uncoated or adhesive magnetic paper
The most commonly used form is magnetic rubber. It does not have its own coating, but is resistant to corrosion, which allows marketers to use it for outdoor advertising and various souvenirs.
The most widespread use of such vinyl is the sealing of liners with printed advertising information. A similar application is for paper with a glue base. Often it is used as the basis for various magnetic souvenirs.
Household Ideas
As already mentioned, most often the paper with a magnetic layer is used by marketers for removable advertising and the souvenir industry. But how can you use this interesting material at home?
Puzzles perfectly develop attention and motor skills. Fans of this lesson know how difficult it is to choose an original picture to your liking. It is necessary to constantly look after the assembled cardboard parts, because one careless movement of a child or a pet - and the masterpiece must be re-stacked. It is convenient to assemble magnetic paper puzzles on the refrigerator or any metal surface without fear of scattering the compiled. For home production, you need the following:
- choose the image you like;
- to put a grid of puzzles on it in a graphical editor;
- print a picture on magnetic paper;
- cut the sheet into individual parts.
Collecting convenient puzzles will be interesting for both adults and children. The only difference is the choice of the printed image.
Puzzles are just one of the ideas. Given the magnetic base, you can make many games for the development of children. If desired, you can replace the usual magnets from the refrigerator. Family photos printed on a magnetic sheet will create a more comfortable and friendly atmosphere in the kitchen.
In fact, there are a lot of options for using the material, their number is limited only by imagination.
