Oriental Shorthair - Guest from Thailand

Oriental Shorthair, also called oriental, arrived in Europe from Thailand relatively recently, at the end of the 19th century, together with its close relative - the Siamese cat, however, unlike its more successful relative, it was not widespread. Only in the middle of the 20th century did American breeders pay attention to orientals, and this breed received official status in 1974. However, after only 2 years, in 1976, in the world there were about 60 nurseries specializing in breeding this breed of cats.

Photos of Oriental Shorthair cats clearly confirm the status of these animals. In fact, these are the same Siamese who differ from their “classically painted” relatives only in eye color and in the absence of special marks on their ears, paws, tail and muzzle. The head is wedge-shaped, the forehead-muzzle transition is smooth, the profile is slightly elongated. The physique is tight, muscular. Standards set by US felinologists require evenly set oval eyes. The coat is straight, short, and more on the care of the coat of these animals. The Oriental Shorthair cat is distinguished by a fairly early puberty, which occurs in her 9 months, and frequent estrus, her fertility, respectively, is above average. Experts say that this breed has excellent prospects, since in its breeding crosses with representatives of the Siamese variety are allowed, which implies a variety of colors.

Types of cats: Oriental Shorthair and grooming

The hair of cats does not require frequent bathing and combing, which can be attributed to the undoubted advantages of this breed. Food should be balanced and not allow the cat to recover much. It would be useful to add to her menu the oils and fats that she needs, like all Siamese, so that the coat remains as glossy and silky. Washing these cats is permissible only in the most extreme cases, if they are very dirty in something. But then you need to be very careful in this process. When caring for oriental hair, use special rubber brushes and massage gloves. All this is necessary in order to protect the delicate skin of the animal from damage.

Character

Being very sociable and “talkative”, Oriental Shorthair gets along well not only with people, but also with other domestic animals living in the apartment. They are very playful animals, so before you get such a cat, think about whether there will be enough room for it in the apartment in order to run and get plenty. Best of all, this problem will be solved by purchasing a special cat collar that will allow you to take your pet with you for a walk. Oriental Shorthair perfectly adapted to life in a city apartment. The only thing to add is that the length of her coat is not quite suitable for the conditions of our winter, which means that the cat needs warmer conditions than other breeds.
